Patrick Mahomes 2018 Outlook: Tons of Upside at a Small Price
6 years agoKansas City Chiefs second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes had himself an excellent offseason. After playing sparingly as a rookie in 2017, the Chiefs signaled that they were ready to turn the team over to him when they traded previous starting quarterback Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins in the offseason. Mahomes instantly finds himself in one of the best situations in the league from a weapons standpoint. The young gunslinger will have Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, and Travis Kelce to target when dropping back while standout running back Kareem Hunt will be the team's primary ball-carrier and keep defenses honest. Mahomes has a big arm and should have no trouble reaching at least 4,000 passing yards in 2018. He has had some trouble with interceptions early in training camp, but he is at no risk of losing his starting job and it shouldn't necessarily be a huge concern to fantasy owners. He has plenty of upside and could finish as a top-10 fantasy quarterback if he adjusts to being the starter quickly. This makes him a great target in the later rounds of fantasy drafts for those who play the Late-Round QB game.
