While it doesn't mean that a deal involving Toffoli will not happen for sure, the team prefers not to trade him and is rather focused on adding goaltending help. The veteran has tallied 26 goals and 44 points in his first season with the Devils in 2023-24, adding 179 shots and 14 power-play points to his ledger. The 31-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent at season's end. While the Devils' offense sits in a tie for ninth-best in the NHL, they rank 31st with an .882 save percentage. As a result, they sit second-last in the Metropolitan Division with a 30-28-4 record.

1 month agoThe Washington Capitals and defenseman Rasmus Sandin have agreed to a five-year, $23 million contract extension. The deal comes just one day before his 24th birthday as Sandin was scheduled to be a restricted free agent at season's end. "I'm very excited," Sandin said. "I'm very happy it got done at this time too, even though we have a lot of time left to work with. But very happy it got done and very excited to be here for ultimately five more years. The Swede was acquired by the Capitals on Feb. 28, 2023 from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for defenseman Erik Gustafsson and a first-round pick. He has three goals and 20 points on 66 shots across 52 games in his first full season with the Capitals.

1 month agoThe Florida Panthers have acquired right wing Vladimir Tarasenko from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for draft compensation, according to NHL Insider Darren Dreger. Tarasenko, a pending unrestricted free agent this summer, has scored 17 goals and added 24 assists through 57 games for the Senators. The 32-year-old forward has been traded ahead of the deadline for the second consecutive season, and his fantasy value gets a boost as he joins a high-scoring Panthers team that ranks eighth in the league with an average of 3.32 goals per game.

1 month agoSeattle Kraken forward Jared McCann was the main offensive catalyst against Winnipeg on Tuesday, factoring in three goals in a 4-3 road win. He potted a short-handed goal in the second period and added two assists to his tally, including a power-play helper when Andre Burakovsky scored the game-winner with only 2:39 remaining in regulation. McCann has been huge for Seattle lately, going on a scoring tear of 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 12 games. With many forwards underperforming for the Kraken this year, McCann is dominating at the top of the team's goal-scoring charts with 27 markers and also leads the team in overall scoring with 52 points in 61 games.

1 month agoNashville Predators center Ryan O'Reilly was forced to witness the first loss in nine games for his team against Montreal on Tuesday, but from a personal perspective, it was another superb outing for him. The veteran forward finished a 4-3 overtime loss with a goal and two assists. O'Reilly scored in a third consecutive game, and he'll head into the next matchup carrying a five-game point streak. Following a largely disappointing campaign in 2022-23, O'Reilly has found a spark again this season and is on course for his first 70-point year since 2018-19. With 63 games played, he sits on 23 goals and 31 assists.

Smith had two assists, one on the power play, and wrapped up the scoring in the middle of the third frame. The 32-year-old celebrated his fifth multi-point outing of the campaign. It's been a bumpy ride for Smith with the Penguins, but he has started to pick up form again. A run of two goals and eight assists in 10 games has boosted Smith's points tally for the season to 29. He's had 11 goals and 18 assists in 54 appearances.

1 month agoFlorida Panthers winger Matthew Tkachuk lent a hand for three goals in Tuesday's 5-3 victory over New Jersey, becoming the fifth player in franchise history with back-to-back 70-point seasons. He reached 71 points (21 goals, 50 assists) for the campaign by setting up Nick Cousins twice on Tuesday and helping Evan Rodrigues in a power-play situation. Tkachuk set incredibly high standards for himself with his 109-point year in 2023-24, and he was far from the same form at the beginning of this campaign, but things have looked very different since the turn of the year. Florida's star winger has registered eight three-point games in 2024, which puts him tied for first with Tampa Bay's Nikita Kucherov.

1 month agoSan Jose Sharks winger Anthony Duclair finished Tuesday's 13-goal thriller against Dallas with four points, registering two goals and two assists in a 7-6 overtime loss. Both of his goals came in power-play situations, while Duclair collected his assists during even-strength play. It's his second career four-point outing. Duclair has seen heavy usage lately, and it's helped him boost his numbers for the campaign. Eight of Duclair's 27 points have come in his past four appearances. He's had 16 goals and 11 assists across 56 games for the season, joining Fabian Zetterlund at the top of San Jose's goals list.

1 month agoDallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen picked up four assists as the team was involved in a high-scoring 7-6 clash with the Sharks on Tuesday, eventually winning in overtime. Heiskanen completed his night at the office with the secondary assist on Roope Hintz's overtime winner. He had two power-play helpers in the opening frame on goals by Jamie Benn and Logan Stankoven, and Heiskanen collected another assist when Wyatt Johnston pushed the game to overtime with a late strike in the third period. Heiskanen moved to 42 points (seven goals, 35 assists) for the season with 53 games played. 11 of his points (two goals, nine assists) have come in his past 10 appearances.

At 20 years, 296 days, he became the youngest player in franchise history with a five-point game, producing a hat trick and two assists. Johnston potted two of his goals late in the third period to take the game to the extra frame. Dallas' young forward also recently had a four-point outing, and he finds himself on a run of 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) in 11 games. With former Art Ross Trophy winner Jamie Benn and AHL scoring machine Logan Stankoven next to him, Johnston is well-placed to keep up his scoring form. He boasts 48 points (22 goals, 26 assists) in 64 games for the season.

1 month agoThe Washington Capitals have traded forward Anthony Mantha to the Vegas Golden Knights, according to Darren Dreger of TSN. Mantha is enjoying a nice bounce back season, with 34 points (20 goals, 14 assists) in 56 games. It is his first 20-goal season since 2018-19 when he was a member of the Detroit Red Wings. Vegas needed to add some scoring after injuries took their toll, and Mantha can provide that. He is also an underrated defender and could make up for some of the defense lost through Mark Stone's absence. His positioning in Vegas' lineup will be worth watching, as he could provide some fantasy value if given good deployment.

1 month agoColorado Avalanche winger Valeri Nichushkin (personal) could return Wednesday after missing the last 19 games. Nichushkin joined the NHL player assistance program on January 10, and just started practicing with the team again last Monday. If he plays Wednesday, he will likely join the top six and first powerplay unit. The 29-year-old has 42 points (22 goals, 20 assists) in 40 games this year, and was on fire just before his extended absence. He should immediately be inserted back into fantasy lineups when he returns.

Keller has missed four games with an upper-body injury but appears to be ready to go as long as he gets the green light from the medical staff. The dynamic winger has racked up 52 points (22 goals, 30 assists) in 57 games this year. He has continued to produce at a high rate, even with less-than-spectacular teammates. He should re-enter fantasy lineups if he is cleared before game time.

Tkachuk has 50 points (26 goals, 24 assists), 248 shots, and 198 hits in 58 games this season, making him one of the most well-rounded players in banger leagues.

1 month agoPittsburgh Penguins forward Jake Guentzel (upper body) is being pursued by the Vancouver Canucks, according to Chris Johnston of The Athletic. With the Canucks being close to the cap, there are also talks about Vancouver flipping recently acquired Elias Lindholm to the Boston Bruins to make room for Guentzel. This could work out for all three teams. Pittsburgh should get some good assets for Guentzel, Vancouver would upgrade their offensive firepower, and Boston would get their centerman. Both Lindholm and Guentzel would likely see a boost in fantasy production if a swap like this happens.
