1 month agoThe Houston Texans agreed to terms with free-agent defensive tackle Tim Settle on Thursday on a two-year deal worth up to $7 million with incentives, according to sources. Settle will join an interesting Texans defensive line after spending the last two seasons with the Buffalo Bills. The 26-year-old spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Commanders after Washington took him in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft out of Virginia Tech. Settle should help make up for the loss of defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins while at least being a rotational player on the interior of Houston's defensive line in 2024. In his last two seasons with the Bills, Settle recorded 20 solo tackles, two sacks, five tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 32 games (four starts).

1 month agoFree-agent pass-rusher D.J. Wonnum plans to sign an undisclosed two-year deal with the Carolina Panthers, according to a source. Wonnum will head to the NFC South after producing a career-high-tying eight sacks, a career-high 62 tackles (33 solo), seven tackles for loss, 15 QB hits, six passes defensed and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown in 15 games (14 starts) in 2023 in his fourth year with the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings originally took him with their fourth-round selection in 2020 out of South Carolina. Wonnum had a career year last season despite missing the tail end of the campaign due to a quadriceps injury. While not on the IDP fantasy radar, the Panthers will be hoping Wonnum can help boost the team's pass-rushing force from the linebacker position after trading Brian Burns to the Giants.

1 month agoFree-agent safety DeShon Elliott signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday for two years and $6 million, according to a source. Elliott was initially drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2018 out of Texas and spent the first three years of his career in Baltimore. Since then, he's spent single years in Detroit and Miami. In 15 regular-season starts for the Dolphins last year, Elliott had 82 tackles (53 solo), an interception, a career-high seven passes defended and a fumble recovery. The 26-year-old has accumulated 287 tackles (202 solo), 3.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 11 QB hits, three interceptions, 17 passes defended, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 57 career games (50 starts) in five NFL seasons. Elliott will be competing for a starting spot in Pittsburgh's secondary.

The former first-round pick (28th overall) by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2019 draft out of Notre Dame played the 2023 campaign with the Las Vegas Raiders and had 31 tackles (11 solo), two sacks, six QB hits and a fumble recovery in 17 games played (six starts). The 27-year-old figures to provide interior depth on Minnesota's defensive line in 2024 and won't be on the fantasy radar in IDP leagues. Tillery has totaled 147 tackles (76 solo), 12.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, 41 QB hits, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 79 games (39 starts) in his five NFL seasons to this point.

He caught 11 of his 22 targets for 86 yards and one touchdown in 17 regular season games (one start) in Buffalo last year. Corey Davis from the Reserve/Retired list on Thursday, making him free to sign with any team on the open market. Davis, who is still an option to return to the Jets, applied for reinstatement from the NFL earlier in the day after announcing his retirement towards the end of last season. The 29-year-old pass-catcher now wants to return to football in 2024, but it remains to be seen where he'll be playing. The Tennessee Titans' former first-round pick (fifth overall) in 2017 out of Western Michigan caught 66 of 123 targets for 1,028 yards and six touchdowns from 2021-22 in two seasons with the Jets. Wherever he's playing in 2024, the veteran wideout will likely be battling for a depth role and is unlikely to make a mark in fantasy.

1 month agoNew York Jets free-agent offensive tackle Mekhi Becton visited with the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday and has two more visits upcoming, according to a league source. Becton was the 11th overall pick by the Jets in 2020 out of Louisville. He started just 14 games in his first two seasons in the NFL due to knee injuries and missed all of 2022. The 6-foot-7, 363-pound hulking offensive lineman was finally able to stay healthy last year, starting 16 games for the Jets. The Bengals are searching for offensive tackle help this offseason after Jonah Williams signed with the Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday. While Becton's huge frame is great for getting in the way of would-be pass-rushers, he's missed more games (36) than he's played in (31) early in his NFL career.

Tart had eight tackles for loss in 11 games (nine starts) for the Houston Texans last year after he was claimed off waivers from the Tennessee Titans. The 27-year-old former undrafted free agent from Florida International played the first three seasons of his career with the Titans and had a total of 32 solo tackles, 1.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, 10 QB hits, one interception, seven passes defended and a fumble recovery in 34 games (27 starts). The Bengals tried to claim Tart when he was waived by Tennessee last year. He's a logical pickup after former defensive tackle DJ Reader signed with the Detroit Lions in free agency on Thursday.

Bell spent the 2020-22 seasons with the Bengals, so he's returning to Cincinnati after spending last year with the Carolina Panthers, where he recorded 69 tackles (42 solo) and one interception in 13 starts. The 29-year-old former second-round pick of the New Orleans Saints in 2016 out of Ohio State has started 106 of the 122 games he's play in in his eight NFL seasons. Bell has been relevant in IDP fantasy leagues in the past, but his tackling numbers have continued to fall off since he recorded a career-high 114 combined tackles in his first year with the Bengals in 2020.

Allen Lazard available in trade talks this offseason, according to league sources. Lazard is due a $10 million salary this season, so he's not likely to generate a ton of interest from other clubs after catching 23 of his 49 targets for 311 yards and one touchdown in 14 games (12 starts) for the Jets in 2023. The 28-year-old former Green Bay Packer came over before last season as a favorite of quarterback
Aaron Rodgers from their time together in Green Bay, but Lazard didn't have much of a chance to excel once Rodgers tore his Achilles in Week 1. Perhaps Lazard could rebound with Rodgers returning this year if he sticks around, but it sounds like the Jets would rather just move on. If there are no takers for Lazard, the Jets could end up cutting him after June 1.

1 month agoLos Angeles Chargers Pro Bowl defensive end Joey Bosa (foot) has restructured his contract to remain with the team, according to sources. Both Bosa and All-Pro edge rusher Khalil Mack restructured their deals this offseason in order to stay together for at least one more season. The 28-year-old Bosa was scheduled to make $22 million in 2024 and $25.36 million next year. While Bosa is one of the best pure pass-rushers in the NFL, staying healthy has made him a disappointment for fantasy managers that have invested in the defensive lineman in IDP formats. The former third overall pick by the Chargers in 2016 out of Ohio State missed the last seven games in 2023 due to a foot injury and has only played 14 games in the last two years due to injury. If he can stay healthy for a full season, both he and Mack could do some serious damage on opposing quarterbacks.

Joe Mixon signed a three-year, $27 million contract extension with the team on Thursday that includes $13 million guaranteed, according to a source. The Cincinnati Bengals were set to cut Mixon for salary cap purposes earlier this week but ended up trading him to the Texans instead.
Devin Singletary, Houston's primary back last year, signed with the Giants in free agency. The 27-year-old Mixon, a Pro Bowler in 2021, goes from one potent offense to another and will be the Texans' No. 1 back, giving him clear RB1 upside in fantasy. In 17 starts for Cincy in 2023, Mixon had the fourth 1,000-yard season of his career while scoring nine rushing touchdowns on 257 carries. He added 52 receptions (64 targets) for 376 yards and another three TDs.
