Joan Adon was called up from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday and will make the start against the San Francisco Giants on the road. Adon was brought up to replace right-hander
Josiah Gray (elbow), who landed on the 15-day injured list. Depending on how long Gray ends up being out and how Adon performs in Washington's starting rotation, the 25-year-old could stick around in D.C., making him worth a look as a waiver-wire pickup in NL-only leagues. He has above-average velocity and gets frequent ground balls, although he had a rough 6.45 ERA with 24 walks and 48 strikeouts in 51 2/3 innings over 12 appearances (10 starts) for the Nats in 2023. Unless he shows more consistency than he has in the last three seasons in the big leagues, fantasy managers in mixed leagues can probably ignore him.

Joan Adon from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move. Fantasy baseball managers in shallower mixed leagues that have Gray rostered will probably waste no time dumping him to the waiver wire after he's started the 2024 campaign by surrendering 13 earned runs on 15 hits (two home runs) while walking five and striking out nine in 8 1/3 innings over his first two starts of the year. The 26-year-old could also be in danger of missing serious time given the nature of his arm injury. Adon will make the start on Tuesday in San Francisco against the Giants.

Craig Breslow said that right-hander
Nick Pivetta (elbow) has a "mild strain" of the flexor tendon in his right arm and could return from the 15-day injured list when he's eligible. The Red Sox wanted to take advantage of the early season schedule to give Pivetta some time off. The 31-year-old is going to miss the next two weeks, but fantasy managers that have him rostered need to keep him in an IL spot until he returns. Pivetta has been excellent in the early going, allowing only an earned run on a solo home run while walking one and fanning 13 in 11 innings over his first two starts in 2024. It's unknown who will take his rotation spot in the short term, with
Cooper Criswell,
Chase Anderson and
Josh Winckowski all being candidates for a few spots starts.

Kyle Bradish (elbow) has joined High-A Aberdeen on Tuesday to begin his minor-league rehab assignment. Bradish was diagnosed with a sprain in the UCL of his right elbow and began the season on the injured list. The right-hander missed most of spring training and will likely need most of the 30-day rehab window to build back up. Last season, Bradish went 12-7 with a 2.83 ERA in 30 starts for the Orioles, so he's worth stashing in deep-mixed and AL-only leagues if you have the room.

Julio Teheran for assignment on Tuesday, the team announced. Teheran signed a one-year $2.5 million deal with the Mets on April 5 after he failed to make the Baltimore Orioles roster. The right-hander made one start for New York allowing four runs on six hits across 2 and 2/3 innings. Following the outing, the Mets designated the right-hander for assignment, and in his spot, New York called up right-handed pitcher Dedniel Núñez.

7 days agoRobbie Grossman will be leading off and playing right field for the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday in Chicago's road game against the Cleveland Guardians. Grossman has struggled this season as he has yet to record a hit in 11 at-bats while striking out three times but has walked twice. Grossman signed a minor-league deal with the White Sox and had his contract selected after hitting .400 with two home runs and five RBI in Triple-A.

Sawyer Gipson-Long (groin, forearm), who made a minor-league rehab start for Single-A Lakeland after opening the year on the injured list with a left-groin strain, is now undergoing evaluation for right-forearm tightness, according to the team. It's a concerning development for the club's No. 10 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. The 26-year-old former sixth-round pick of the Minnesota Twins in 2019 out of Mercer University made his big-league debut in 2023 and impressed by posting a 2.70 ERA (3.16 FIP) and 1.10 WHIP with eight walks and 26 strikeouts in his first 20 innings over four starts. Gipson-Long is worth stashing only in dynasty/keeper leagues right now, but he could be looking at an extended absence, depending on the severity of his forearm injury.

Trevor Story (shoulder) will have surgery on his fractured shoulder on Friday, according to general manager
Craig Breslow. Story's recovery will be somewhere in the neighborhood of six months. The 31-year-old suffered a left-shoulder subluxation last Friday against the Los Angeles Angels when diving for a ball on the infield, and now he's going to miss the rest of the 2024 season. It's a tough blow for Story, who got a late start to last season due to surgery on his right elbow. Fantasy managers in single-year leagues can safely drop Story at this time. In the meantime, the recently recalled
Romy Gonzalez will platoon at the 6 with
David Hamilton, although
Vaughn Grissom (groin, hamstring) could also see reps at the position when he returns from the injured list. At best, Gonzalez and Hamilton are AL-only pickups for middle-infield depth.

Austin Hays are not in the starting lineup against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday. With the two resting in Beantown,
Tony Kemp is playing second base and batting ninth, while
Colton Cowser starts in left field and is hitting seventh in the lineup against Red Sox right-hander
Brayan Bello. This will be Westburg's first game off of the season, and he could use the break, as he's started off the year hitting just .194 in his first 34 plate appearances in 2024. Hays has also started slow, going just 2-for-26 (.077) in his first eight games played. Cowser has never faced Bello in his career, while Kemp has one hit in his two at-bats against him. Cowser is the better upside sleeper play in DFS and is off to a .455 (5-for-11) start in 2024.

Danny Jansen (wrist) is swinging a bat and hasn't had any setbacks in his recovery, but it sounds as though he's tracking toward a late-April return. Jansen was forced to open the 2024 regular season on the shelf after suffering a small fracture in his right wrist in spring training. Before being activated from the IL, the 28-year-old backstop will go on a minor-league rehab assignment to get his timing down at the plate. When healthy and in Toronto, he'll platoon behind the plate with
Alejandro Kirk. Jansen has never reached 20 homers in six MLB seasons, but he had a career-high 17 long balls in 86 games for the Blue Jays in 2023 and brings above-average pop to the catcher position. The problem is he's had a tough time staying healthy and will battle for playing time with Kirk.

Jordan Romano (elbow) and
Erik Swanson (forearm) are both expected to pitch on Thursday with Triple-A Buffalo, and they should both be active soon after that as long as they don't suffer setbacks. Romano dealt with right-elbow inflammation in spring training and began the year on the injured list, but he's close to being ready to make his 2024 debut as Toronto's closer. Swanson is another key late-inning arm for the Blue Jays and should be one of the team's top setup men in front of Romano in the ninth inning again this year.
Chad Green has been filling in as the team's closer with Romano and Swanson sidelined, but he'll go back to a setup role once Romano is activated. The 30-year-old Romano needs to be rostered in all fantasy leagues with his return imminent.

Ceddanne Rafaela will also see time up the middle in Beantown.
Vaughn Grissom (groin, hamstring) will mostly work at the keystone but will also get reps at shortstop. Gonzalez was called up from Triple-A Worcester on Monday after slashing .321/.375/.821 with three homers and 10 RBI in 32 plate appearances on the farm. Grissom, who is expected to start a rehab assignment this weekend, should eventually see regular playing time for the BoSox at the keystone when he's healthy and is by far the most attractive fantasy player of all these middle-infield names.

Rob Refsnyder (toe) will start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday. Grissom was forced to begin the 2024 season in his first year in Beantown on the injured list. When healthy, he was expected to serve as the team's primary second baseman, but with
Trevor Story (shoulder) potentially out for the entire season now, Grissom is going to see work at the keystone and the 6 on his rehab assignment. Regardless of where the 23-year-old is playing up the middle, he should be guaranteed regular playing time once he makes his season debut in the big leagues and should be scooped up off the waiver wire right now if he's available in deep-mixed fantasy leagues.

Brennan Bernardino from the minors in a corresponding move. It's tough news for the Red Sox and Pivetta, who had given up just one run with 13 strikeouts and only one walk in 11 innings over his first two starts of the season. Hopefully, he'll only be away from the team for the minimum amount of time, but flexor-tendon injuries can end up being pretty serious. Bernardino will give the Red Sox another left-handed arm in the bullpen. It's unclear who will replace Pivetta in Boston's starting rotation, but names like
Josh Winckowski,
Cooper Criswell and
