6 days agoHouston Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander (shoulder) is quickly approaching his season debut. Verlander was unable to throw at all during Spring Training but has made minor league rehab appearances over the past week and is just about complete with his recovery process. Manager Joe Espada expressed that the three-time Cy Young Award winner could make his season debut on Friday as the Astros will take on the Washington Nationals. The Astros are in need of a spark due to their early season struggles. The future Hall-Of-Famer will slot right into the rotation when cleared.Source: Julia Morales
6 days agoArizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez will be out of the lineup for the first time this season as the Snakes play the rubber match of a three-game set against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 32-year-old has an excellent start with his new team, with a .259/.313./414 line with two home runs and 12 RBI. Veteran Jace Peterson will man the hot corner and bat in the six-hole this afternoon and comes into this game on a bit of a cold streak, as he has just one hit over the past two weeks. He could be a sneaky play in DFS as he will face Miles Mikolas, who has a 1-1 record and a high 4.76 ERA.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoTampa Bay Rays infield prospect Junior Caminero (quadriceps) was activated off of the injured list at Triple-A Durham on Sunday. Caminero will start at third base and bat second for Sunday's game against Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 20-year-old is the Rays top prospect and the No. 4 overall prospect in all of baseball. While the injury derailed his season slightly, Caminero should still be up in the majors at some point in 2024. He is worthy of a stash spot in deeper leagues and is a cornerstone piece in dynasty formats.Source: Marc Topkin
6 days agoAtlanta Braves catcher Travis d'Arnaud is not in the team's starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Miami Marlins. It is just a regular rest day for the veteran backstop as he started the past two games behind the plate. Chadwick Tromp will take over catching duties on Sunday and bat ninth. Tromp is slashing .200/.182/.300 with no home runs to start the season and is not a recommended fantasy play for any format.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoSeattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez is not in the team's starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Rodriguez has struggled mightily in the early going, so this off day is likely giving him a chance to reset. The 23-year-old was a fantasy star last season, but he is carrying a dismal .186/.238/.203 slash line with no home runs and 21 strikeouts to start 2024. Luke Raley will get the start in centerfield and bat eighth with Rodriguez sidelined. Raley managed to hit 19 homers last season, but he is not a recommended fantasy option on Sunday.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoNew York Mets third baseman Brett Baty is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Kansas City Royals. Baty has impressed in the early going with a .302 average and nine RBI, but he will get a day off with left-hander Cole Ragans on the mound for the Royals. Zack Short will get the start at third base and bat eighth in Baty's absence. Short owns a career slash line of .175/.267/.308 and is not a recommended fantasy option in any format.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoMiami Marlins shortstop Tim Anderson (illness) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Braves. It will be the third straight missed game for Anderson, although he is still considered day-to-day. In his absence, Vidal Brujan will get another start and bat eighth for the Marlins. The 26-year-old is just 1-for-18 at the plate this season and can be avoided in all formats while Anderson is shelved.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoTexas Rangers starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen (neck) is scheduled to make his season debut against the Detroit Tigers on Monday. The right-hander is set to take the mound after dealing with a neck injury to begin the season. The expectation is that Lorenzen fills the void in the rotation left by Cody Bradford (back) who was placed on the injured list. Lorenzen looked sharp last season, but there could be some rust to shake off. He'll be worth rostering in most fantasy formats right now while Bradford is sidelined.Source: Kennedi Landry
6 days agoHouston Astros outfielder Chas McCormick (hamstring) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Texas Rangers. He'll return his return to the lineup after a one-game absence due to a hamstring issue. McCormick will cover center field and bat fifth versus right-hander Nathan Eovaldi. Fantasy managers in season-long formats can get McCormick back in their lineups. DFS players might want to look for a better option than McCormick considering this tough matchup.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoHouston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman (illness) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Texas Rangers. The stud corner infielder will now miss his third game in a row due to a lingering illness. It's unlikely that the Astros need to place Bregman on the injured list, but fantasy managers should stay tuned. Mauricio Dubon will get the start at third base and bat ninth versus right-hander Nathan Eovaldi. Fantasy managers should avoid Dubon in this tough matchup.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoPittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Marco Gonzales (forearm) has been placed on the 15-day injured list on Sunday. The left-hander appears to have picked up the injury during Saturday's outing against the Philadelphia Phillies. Gonzales looked strong throwing six innings and allowing only two runs. Sadly, it appears the Pirates are going to be without Gonzales until some point in May. In a corresponding move, right-hander Ryder Ryan has been recalled from Triple-A. However, Ryan was pitching out of the bullpen, so the Pirates will need to make a move to get another starter at some point next week.Source: Pittsburgh Pirates
6 days agoTexas Rangers starting pitcher Cody Bradford (back) has been placed on the 15-day injured list on Sunday. It appears the left-hander picked up a lower back injury at some point during Wednesday's start. This is a shame considering Bradford has pitched well to start the season. Now, the young southpaw is looking at missing at least two weeks of action. In a corresponding move, right-hander Cole Winn has been recalled from Triple-A. The expectation is that Winn will take the spot in the rotation. Fantasy managers should hold Bradford through this injury considering how well he has looked early on this season.Source: Kennedi Landry
6 days agoMilwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio (rest) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. This appears to be a routine rest day for the rookie outfielder. The expectation is that Chourio will return to the lineup for their next game. In the meantime, Joey Wiemer is getting the start in left field, and Blake Perkins in center field versus right-hander Corbin Burnes. Neither of them are ideal streaming options for Sunday's slate.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoMilwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich (back) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The veteran outfielder continues to deal with back discomfort and will be held out of at least one more game. At the moment, fantasy managers should consider Yelich as day-to-day. However, Yelich could end up heading to the injured list if the issue continues to linger. Joey Wiemer will cover left field and bat eighth versus right-hander Corbin Burnes on Sunday. Fantasy managers should probably stay away from Wiemer in this tough matchup.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoLourdes Gurriel Jr. recorded a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 on Saturday. With the game tied 1-1, and runners on first and second with no outs, Gurriel Jr. took Kyle Gibson deep. Gurriel Jr. finished the game going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBIs and did strike out once. The outfielder now has four homers on the year.Source: MLB
