The Miami Marlins announced on Wednesday that they acquired right-hander
Michael Petersen from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for cash considerations and optioned him to Triple-A Jacksonville. In a corresponding move, the team transferred right-hander
Jesus Tinoco (forearm) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL. Petersen made four relief appearances for the Braves this year, allowing three earned runs on seven hits (one homer) while walking two and striking out five in 6 2/3 frames. The 31-year-old has only thrown 26 1/3 innings in the big leagues and has a 5.47 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 19:13 K:BB in 20 relief appearances. Tinoco has been out since early June with a strained right forearm and won't be eligible to return from the IL until Aug. 5. The Venezuelan reliever had a 5.12 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, a career-high four saves and 10 K's in 19 1/3 innings before his injury.

Baltimore Ravens rookie third-round offensive tackle Emery Jones (shoulder) will start training camp this summer on the Non-Football Injury list as he rehabs from shoulder surgery, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. It shouldn't come as a surprise after head coach John Harbaugh said last month that Jones wouldn't be ready for the start of camp. Now the question becomes whether he'll be ready for the start of the regular season in early September. It's unclear when the 21-year-old from LSU will be able to get back on the field for Baltimore, but it now puts into question whether he will be able to compete for the starting right guard job early in 2025. The 6-foot-5, 315-pounder was a quality starter for the Tigers in college and should eventually push for a starting job in his rookie season, it's just a matter of when that will happen.

Eight-time Pro Bowl outside linebacker Von Miller is signing an undisclosed deal with the Washington Commanders on Wednesday, sources tell NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Miller has already won two Super Bowl rings with the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams and will now try for his third ring with an up-and-coming team that was one win away from getting to the Super Bowl last season. The 36-year-old former second overall pick in 2011 by the Broncos out of Texas A&M is no longer in his prime, though, and will be a rotational pass-rusher in D.C. in 2025. He didn't have a single sack in 12 games with the Buffalo Bills in 2023 before bouncing back with six QB takedowns in 13 regular-season games in 2024, adding 17 tackles (13 solo), seven tackles for loss and eight QB hits. Fantasy managers in IDP formats can avoid Miller at this stage of his career.

The San Francisco 49ers and second-round rookie defensive tackle Alfred Collins (calf) agreed to a four-year, $10.3 million deal that includes over $9 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The No. 43 overall selection in April signing his rookie deal is now expected to trigger multiple second-round signings. Until now, 30 of the 32 second-round picks were unsigned. The 23-year-old will have 88 percent of his deal guaranteed, which is a big jump over last year's No. 43 overall pick. Collins missed valuable practice time during minicamp with a calf injury, but he's expected to be back on the field for training camp this month. If he's healthy and up to speed for the start of the 2025 regular season this fall, Collins is expected to have a prominent role on the interior of San Fran's defensive line, a spot that really struggled to generate pressure in 2024.

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed reliever Blake Treienen (forearm) made his third minor-league rehab appearance on Tuesday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and allowed a solo home run while walking none and striking out one in his inning of work. In his three innings on the farm during his rehab assignment, the 36-year-old veteran hurler has allowed two runs (one earned) while striking out four and walking one. It's unclear how much longer he'll be on his rehab assignment, but barring a setback with his forearm, we'd suspect he'll rejoin the big-league bullpen shortly after the start of the second half of the season this Friday. Treinen has two saves in just eight appearances in 2025 and 82 saves in 11 big-league seasons, so he could see more work in the ninth inning in the second half for the Blue, especially if lefty

According to Dan Woike and Joe Vardon of The Athletic, the Dallas Mavericks aren't interested in "gutting its roster" in a deal for Los Angeles Lakers forward
LeBron James (knee). It was reported that the multi-time All-Star hasn't had discussions with the Lakers involving a trade. However, James' no-trade clause, age, and $52.6 million salary are barriers preventing teams, not just the Mavericks, from engaging in meaningful discussions about a potential deal. The 40-year-old is still playing at an exceptional level, most recently finishing the 2024 campaign by averaging 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.0 steals in 70 contests. Of course, there will be more updates and rumors regarding James and his future moving ahead. With that in mind, he should continue to provide consistent fantasy production, assuming he stays healthy, no matter where he suits up before calling it a career.

New York Knicks forward
Josh Hart (finger) underwent a procedure on his right ring finger. He sustained the injury during the postseason. Fortunately, the 30-year-old is expected to resume basketball activities "later in the summer." Even better, he's not projected to miss any time to begin the 2025 campaign. Hart is coming off another quality year, finishing the 2024 season by averaging 13.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.5 steals. He's also one of the most durable players in the National Basketball Association, logging 234 games in the last three seasons. Hart is always a triple-double threat whenever he's on the floor. His willingness to play through injuries is an added bonus for fantasy managers. While his shooting percentages could improve, his contributions in the other statistical categories gives him plenty of value from a fantasy standpoint.

According to Daniel Popper, left tackle Rashawn Slater is expected to practice while he discusses an extension with the Los Angeles Chargers. The team's general manager Joe Hortiz said he expects Slater to practice during ongoing contract talks. That being said, it seems the two sides should be close on a deal, considering Slater is willing to practice. Slater is in the final year of his deal and has shown good faith by showing up for minicamp and team activities. The expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowl left tackle will get a similar deal to Tristan Wirfs. Right now, Wirfs is currently the highest-paid left tackle, but Slater should be able to land a deal in a similar ballpark.

Stefon Diggs (knee) is trending towards being cleared to play in Week 1 of the regular season. That would be pretty incredible, considering Diggs tore his ACL in Week 8 of last season. This offseason, Diggs signed a three-year, $69 million deal with the Patriots. When healthy, Diggs is expected to be the primary passing option for quarterback
Drake Maye. Despite Breer's belief in Diggs, it's hard to imagine Diggs being 100 percent ready by Week 1. The assumption is that the Pats are going to bring Diggs along slowly. Right now, fantasy managers should view Diggs as a high-end WR3 in most fantasy formats. The first year coming off an ACL injury is usually tough for players.

Minnesota Twins
Zebby Matthews (shoulder) struck out nine and allowed no hits and one walk over four shutout innings in Sunday's rehab start for Triple-A St. Paul. This was the first time on the mound for Matthews since June 4 while recovering from a shoulder strain. His fastball topped out at around 97 to 98 mph. The 25-year-old went (1-1) with a 5.21 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and 25:8 K:BB in only 19 innings over his first four starts for the Twins. Matthews could be headed back to the majors soon after the All-Star break, and fantasy managers in 12+ team leagues should continue to stash him for the second half.

Spencer Arrighetti (thumb) could begin a rehab assignment in seven to 10 days, according to Astros general manager Dana Brown. Brown said that Arrighetti has resumed throwing live batting practice sessions and could start his rehab assignment soon. The 25-year-old made just two starts before being placed on the injured list in April with a fractured right thumb. He will likely need multiple outings to build up his pitch count before he would be cleared to rejoin the Astros rotation. Fantasy managers with an IL spot should continue to stash Arrighetti as he could return to the Astros at some point in early to mid-August.

Luis Gil (lat) made a pitching appearance in a game for the first time since October 2024, allowing two hits, a walk, and an earned run while striking out six across 3 1/3 innings. Gil continues to recover from a lat strain and was pulled after 50 pitches. He will likely need a few more rehab outings as the Yankees could consider activating him from the injured list once he reaches 75 pitches. If not, 90 pitches would be the return threshold. Gil posted a 3.50 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 151 2/3 innings with 171 strikeouts last season. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Gil as he could rejoin the Yankees' rotation by the end of July.

Kyle Bradish (elbow) had Tommy John surgery with internal bracing performed in June 2024. Interim Orioles manager Tony Mansolino said recently that Bradish will throw at least one more live batting practice session before beginning a minor-league rehab assignment. The 28-year-old has already thrown a few live bullpen sessions and should be cleared to start his rehab assignment soon after the All-Star break. Barring any setbacks during the rehab assignment, Bradish could be ready to rejoin Baltimore's rotation by mid-August. Fantasy managers with an open IL spot should continue to stash Bradish after he posted a 2.75 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and a 53:15 K:BB across 39 1/3 innings last season before getting injured.

The Cleveland Browns announced on Wednesday that they placed defensive end Elerson Smith on the Reserve/Retired list. Smith was originally a fourth-round selection (116th overall) by the New York Giants in the 2021 NFL draft out of Northern Iowa. The 26-year-old defensive lineman spent the first two years of his career in the Big Apple before playing with the Browns last season. He appeared in just two games in 2024 with Cleveland and had two tackles (one solo). In his two seasons with the G-Men, Smith had just 11 tackles (three solo), two QB hits, and a forced fumble in 13 games (zero starts) while mostly playing on special teams. He was first signed to the Browns' practice squad last September and was elevated to the active roster in Weeks 11 and 12 for D-line depth.

The Kansas City Chiefs waived former Clemson standout wide receiver
Justyn Ross on Wednesday, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. After not making the 53-man roster out of training camp last summer, Ross returned to KC's practice squad but only ended up playing in two regular-season games while failing to catch his only target on just 14 offensive snaps. The 25-year-old saw much more action in his rookie season in 2023, catching six of his 11 targets for 53 yards in 10 regular-season games (one start). Ross could still return to the Chiefs practice squad this fall, but he'd be a long shot for a considerable role on offense. Wherever he winds up, he won't suddenly enter the fantasy radar.

Tre Harris is one of 30 unsigned second-round rookies, but general manager Joe Hortiz is hoping that the team can get things settled soon in order to get him back onto the practice field with training camp starting this week. "I wish I could put a crystal ball on it. I hope it's done soon. I hope he gets out here and practices, practice is vital for everyone, not just him," Hortiz said. The Chargers' rookies reported to camp last Saturday, so the 23-year-old is already behind the eight ball heading into his first NFL season. Harris impressed the coaches during offseason workouts this spring, but he'll need to get back out there soon so that he doesn't lose any progress he made. When he's on the field, Harris should have a key role as a deep target for quarterback

Najee Harris (eye) will likely begin training camp this week on the Non-Football Injury list, according to The Athletic's Daniel Popper. Harris suffered a superficial eye injury during a fireworks mishap on the Fourth of July but he will report to the team's facilities on Wednesday. The 27-year-old Harris has been receiving treatment from doctors at Stanford for an injury that isn't believed to be very serious. The Chargers can activate Harris at any time from the NFI list, and he's not expected to miss much time at the beginning of camp. Additionally, he's fully expected to be full-go for Week 1 of the regular season on Sept. 7. Still, this is a bad start for Harris in his first year in L.A., especially after the Chargers took

Aaron Sanchez is attempting to make a comeback after last pitching in the big leagues in 2022 with the Washington Nationals and Minnesota Twins, where he went a combined 3-4 with a 6.60 ERA and 1.55 WHIP while striking out 41 and walking 15 in 60 innings over 15 appearances (10 starts). The 33-year-old former first-rounder by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2010 pitched last season for Triple-A Buffalo, where he had an ugly 7.92 ERA with 41 strikeouts and 39 walks in 61 1/3 innings. It's unclear how good of shape Sanchez is in and whether any team will give him a minor-league deal for the second half of the 2025 season. He was an All-Star for Toronto back in 2016, but his career was cut short due to injuries, and he'll be a long shot to return to the majors after taking so much time off.

The Baltimore Orioles announced on Wednesday that they claimed right-hander
Elvin Rodriguez off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers and optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. Rodriguez returned to the big leagues this year with Milwaukee after spending most of 2023 and all of 2024 in Japan. The 27-year-old Dominican hurler appeared in just six games (two starts) for the Brew Crew, going 0-2 while allowing 18 earned runs on 23 hits (seven home runs), walking seven and striking out 17 in 18 2/3 innings pitched. He had a 4.25 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 25 strikeouts and only six walks in 29 2/3 innings over 16 appearances (two starts) while at Triple-A Nashville. Rodriguez made his MLB debut in 2022 with Detroit and has a rough 9.23 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 47:22 K:BB in 14 major-league outings (seven starts).

Cam Devanney from the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday in exchange for veteran infielder/outfielder
Adam Frazier, the Pirates announced. The Pirates have optioned Devanney to Triple-A Indianapolis, where he'll serve as middle-infield depth. The 28-year-old former 15th-round selection in 2019 out of Elon University by the Milwaukee Brewers has the ability to play pretty much every infield position and can also serve as an outfielder in a pinch, which will increase his odds of making his MLB debut in Pittsburgh later this year. In 69 games at Triple-A Omaha in the first half of 2025, Devanney hit .272/.366/.565 with a .931 OPS, 18 home runs, 55 RBI, 41 runs scored and three steals in 288 trips to the plate. He's a .253 hitter in six minor-league seasons and had a career-high 23 bombs in 2022.

Cleveland Guardians second base prospect
Travis Bazzana (oblique) is scheduled to be activated off the minor-league injured list to rejoin Double-A Akron when the team resumes play in the second half of the season on Friday at Double-A Altoona, according to Guardians Prospective. Bazzana, the team's top prospect per MLB Pipeline, has been on the minor-league IL since the middle of May with a strained right oblique, but the 22-year-old started a rehab assignment on July 5 and has gone 4-for-18 with two RBI, seven runs and a steal. The left-handed-hitting Australian from Oregon State was hitting .252 (32-for-127) with four home run, 17 RBI, 29 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 33 contests with Akron before his oblique injury. Bazzana should be stashed in most dynasty/keeper leagues, but there's a good chance he won't make his MLB debut until 2026.

The Milwaukee Brewers reinstated left-hander
Aaron Ashby from the paternity list back on Monday and optioned right-hander
Easton McGee to Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move. Ashby was away from the team for the birth of his child for the final three games of the first half of the season last weekend, but he's now back with the club and will be available out of the bullpen for the start of the second half this Friday in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. The 27-year-old southpaw got a late start to the 2025 season due to injury, but he's made up for lost time and has been a key arm in Milwaukee's bullpen through his 13 outings, as he's posted a sharp 1.66 ERA (2.67 FIP), a 1.06 WHIP, one save, 26 strikeouts and seven walks in 21 2/3 innings pitched. With how well he's pitching in relief, it's worth wondering if the Brewers will return him to a starting role eventually.

Sal Frelick (hamstring) has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, and his status for Friday's series opener at Dodger Stadium against the Los Angeles Dodgers is to be determined, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. The Brewers will monitor Frelick's progress the next few days before deciding if he needs a stint on the injured list. The 25-year-old was injured in the last game of the first half of the season on Sunday and could be out another week or so if he's not ready to return to action this weekend in L.A. Los Angeles Dodgers outfield prospect Mike Sirota (knee) was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Sunday, an unfortunate turn of events after a strong first half of the season. The Dodgers' sixth-ranked prospect was slashing .333/.452/.616 between Single-A and High-A this season, belting 16 doubles, three triples, and 13 home runs in 59 games. His .483 wOBA led all minor leaguers (150 AB minimum), and a 186 wRC+ was second-best. The 22-year-old injured his knee on a slide while running the bases and hasn't played since July 5. No official word has been given in regards to the injury, but it appears it is more serious than first thought when he was initially placed on the 7-day IL.

Minnesota Twins outfield prospect
Gabriel Gonzalez is currently tied for the minor league lead in total hits with 108, including 29 doubles, which are the third-most in the minors. On the back of a 12.0 percent strikeout rate and minuscule 7.7 percent swinging-strike rate, the Twins' 17th-ranked prospect has helped himself to a robust .347/.420/.527 slash line through 78 games (34 at High-A, 44 at Double-A). The Venezuelan was the team's fourth-ranked prospect last year, but an uninspiring 2024 led to a drop in ranking.
