Elerson Smith Retires From Football
Source: ClevelandBrowns.com
The Cleveland Browns announced on Wednesday that they placed defensive end Elerson Smith on the Reserve/Retired list. Smith was originally a fourth-round selection (116th overall) by the New York Giants in the 2021 NFL draft out of Northern Iowa. The 26-year-old defensive lineman spent the first two years of his career in the Big Apple before playing with the Browns last season. He appeared in just two games in 2024 with Cleveland and had two tackles (one solo). In his two seasons with the G-Men, Smith had just 11 tackles (three solo), two QB hits, and a forced fumble in 13 games (zero starts) while mostly playing on special teams. He was first signed to the Browns' practice squad last September and was elevated to the active roster in Weeks 11 and 12 for D-line depth.Chiefs Waive Justyn Ross
Justyn Ross on Wednesday, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. After not making the 53-man roster out of training camp last summer, Ross returned to KC's practice squad but only ended up playing in two regular-season games while failing to catch his only target on just 14 offensive snaps. The 25-year-old saw much more action in his rookie season in 2023, catching six of his 11 targets for 53 yards in 10 regular-season games (one start). Ross could still return to the Chiefs practice squad this fall, but he'd be a long shot for a considerable role on offense. Wherever he winds up, he won't suddenly enter the fantasy radar.Source: The 33rd Team - Ari Meirov
The Kansas City Chiefs waived former Clemson standout wide receiver Chargers Hope to Get Tre Harris on the Field Soon
Tre Harris is one of 30 unsigned second-round rookies, but general manager Joe Hortiz is hoping that the team can get things settled soon in order to get him back onto the practice field with training camp starting this week. "I wish I could put a crystal ball on it. I hope it's done soon. I hope he gets out here and practices, practice is vital for everyone, not just him," Hortiz said. The Chargers' rookies reported to camp last Saturday, so the 23-year-old is already behind the eight ball heading into his first NFL season. Harris impressed the coaches during offseason workouts this spring, but he'll need to get back out there soon so that he doesn't lose any progress he made. When he's on the field, Harris should have a key role as a deep target for quarterback Justin Herbert, although fantasy managers should expect inconsistency in a run-first offense.Source: ESPN.com - Kris Rhim
Los Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Najee Harris Likely to Begin Training Camp on NFI List
Najee Harris (eye) will likely begin training camp this week on the Non-Football Injury list, according to The Athletic's Daniel Popper. Harris suffered a superficial eye injury during a fireworks mishap on the Fourth of July but he will report to the team's facilities on Wednesday. The 27-year-old Harris has been receiving treatment from doctors at Stanford for an injury that isn't believed to be very serious. The Chargers can activate Harris at any time from the NFI list, and he's not expected to miss much time at the beginning of camp. Additionally, he's fully expected to be full-go for Week 1 of the regular season on Sept. 7. Still, this is a bad start for Harris in his first year in L.A., especially after the Chargers took Omarion Hampton in the first round in April.Source: The Athletic - Daniel Popper
Los Angeles Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz said that running back Aaron Sanchez Attempting a Comeback
Aaron Sanchez is attempting to make a comeback after last pitching in the big leagues in 2022 with the Washington Nationals and Minnesota Twins, where he went a combined 3-4 with a 6.60 ERA and 1.55 WHIP while striking out 41 and walking 15 in 60 innings over 15 appearances (10 starts). The 33-year-old former first-rounder by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2010 pitched last season for Triple-A Buffalo, where he had an ugly 7.92 ERA with 41 strikeouts and 39 walks in 61 1/3 innings. It's unclear how good of shape Sanchez is in and whether any team will give him a minor-league deal for the second half of the 2025 season. He was an All-Star for Toronto back in 2016, but his career was cut short due to injuries, and he'll be a long shot to return to the majors after taking so much time off.Source: USA TODAY Sports - Bob Nightengale
Former All-Star starting pitcher Orioles Claim Elvin Rodriguez Off Waivers From Brewers
Elvin Rodriguez off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers and optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. Rodriguez returned to the big leagues this year with Milwaukee after spending most of 2023 and all of 2024 in Japan. The 27-year-old Dominican hurler appeared in just six games (two starts) for the Brew Crew, going 0-2 while allowing 18 earned runs on 23 hits (seven home runs), walking seven and striking out 17 in 18 2/3 innings pitched. He had a 4.25 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 25 strikeouts and only six walks in 29 2/3 innings over 16 appearances (two starts) while at Triple-A Nashville. Rodriguez made his MLB debut in 2022 with Detroit and has a rough 9.23 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 47:22 K:BB in 14 major-league outings (seven starts).Source: MLB.com - Jake Rill
The Baltimore Orioles announced on Wednesday that they claimed right-hander Pirates Acquire Cam Devanney From Royals
Cam Devanney from the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday in exchange for veteran infielder/outfielder Adam Frazier, the Pirates announced. The Pirates have optioned Devanney to Triple-A Indianapolis, where he'll serve as middle-infield depth. The 28-year-old former 15th-round selection in 2019 out of Elon University by the Milwaukee Brewers has the ability to play pretty much every infield position and can also serve as an outfielder in a pinch, which will increase his odds of making his MLB debut in Pittsburgh later this year. In 69 games at Triple-A Omaha in the first half of 2025, Devanney hit .272/.366/.565 with a .931 OPS, 18 home runs, 55 RBI, 41 runs scored and three steals in 288 trips to the plate. He's a .253 hitter in six minor-league seasons and had a career-high 23 bombs in 2022.Source: Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired infielder Travis Bazzana Expected to Rejoin Double-A on Friday
Travis Bazzana (oblique) is scheduled to be activated off the minor-league injured list to rejoin Double-A Akron when the team resumes play in the second half of the season on Friday at Double-A Altoona, according to Guardians Prospective. Bazzana, the team's top prospect per MLB Pipeline, has been on the minor-league IL since the middle of May with a strained right oblique, but the 22-year-old started a rehab assignment on July 5 and has gone 4-for-18 with two RBI, seven runs and a steal. The left-handed-hitting Australian from Oregon State was hitting .252 (32-for-127) with four home run, 17 RBI, 29 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 33 contests with Akron before his oblique injury. Bazzana should be stashed in most dynasty/keeper leagues, but there's a good chance he won't make his MLB debut until 2026.Source: Guardians Prospective
Cleveland Guardians second base prospect Aaron Ashby Back From Paternity List
Aaron Ashby from the paternity list back on Monday and optioned right-hander Easton McGee to Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move. Ashby was away from the team for the birth of his child for the final three games of the first half of the season last weekend, but he's now back with the club and will be available out of the bullpen for the start of the second half this Friday in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. The 27-year-old southpaw got a late start to the 2025 season due to injury, but he's made up for lost time and has been a key arm in Milwaukee's bullpen through his 13 outings, as he's posted a sharp 1.66 ERA (2.67 FIP), a 1.06 WHIP, one save, 26 strikeouts and seven walks in 21 2/3 innings pitched. With how well he's pitching in relief, it's worth wondering if the Brewers will return him to a starting role eventually.Source: MLB.com
The Milwaukee Brewers reinstated left-hander Sal Frelick Dealing With Grade 1 Hamstring Strain, TBD for Start of Second Half
Sal Frelick (hamstring) has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, and his status for Friday's series opener at Dodger Stadium against the Los Angeles Dodgers is to be determined, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. The Brewers will monitor Frelick's progress the next few days before deciding if he needs a stint on the injured list. The 25-year-old was injured in the last game of the first half of the season on Sunday and could be out another week or so if he's not ready to return to action this weekend in L.A. If Frelick lands on the IL, the Brewers could call up Blake Perkins from the minors to play some right field in Milwaukee. Frelick is having the best year of his career in his third big-league season, hitting .294/.354/.404 with a .758 OPS, seven home runs, 39 RBI, 46 runs and 17 stolen bases in 93 games played.Source: MLB.com - Adam McCalvy
Milwaukee Brewers right fielder Mike Sirota Transferred to 60-Day Injured List
Source: MiLB.com
Los Angeles Dodgers outfield prospect Mike Sirota (knee) was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Sunday, an unfortunate turn of events after a strong first half of the season. The Dodgers' sixth-ranked prospect was slashing .333/.452/.616 between Single-A and High-A this season, belting 16 doubles, three triples, and 13 home runs in 59 games. His .483 wOBA led all minor leaguers (150 AB minimum), and a 186 wRC+ was second-best. The 22-year-old injured his knee on a slide while running the bases and hasn't played since July 5. No official word has been given in regards to the injury, but it appears it is more serious than first thought when he was initially placed on the 7-day IL.Gabriel Gonzalez Surging at Double-A Wichita
Gabriel Gonzalez is currently tied for the minor league lead in total hits with 108, including 29 doubles, which are the third-most in the minors. On the back of a 12.0 percent strikeout rate and minuscule 7.7 percent swinging-strike rate, the Twins' 17th-ranked prospect has helped himself to a robust .347/.420/.527 slash line through 78 games (34 at High-A, 44 at Double-A). The Venezuelan was the team's fourth-ranked prospect last year, but an uninspiring 2024 led to a drop in ranking. However, he looks to be returning to the once-promising form he showed while in the Seattle organization before coming over in the deal that sent Jorge Polanco westward. He looks ready for a test at Triple-A, and the 21-year-old could be making fantasy waves next year if everything goes right.Source: MiLB.com
Minnesota Twins outfield prospect Christopher Suero Headed to Double-A Binghamton
Christopher Suero is headed to Double-A Binghamton after 161 games at High-A between 2024 and 2025. The Mets' 20th-ranked prospect hit just .240 this year, but his home runs (13), RBI (51), and runs scored (53) were all top six in the South Atlantic League. The 21-year-old was striking out at an elevated 28.6 percent rate, however, it was somewhat offset by the strong 13.6 percent walk rate that helped him to a healthy .382 OBP. The 5-foot-11 backstop also has quite a bit of speed for a catcher, swiping 25 bags so far this season in 74 games. That could make him an intriguing fantasy asset were he eventually to get to the majors, so he's worth keeping an eye on. Still, the team may also move him off of catcher, with experience at first base and in the outfield during his minor league tenure.Source: MiLB Central

Chris Sale Plays Catch
Chris Sale (ribs) played catch on Tuesday. Sale isn't eligible to come off the 60-day injured list until after Aug. 19, but he's at least making progress toward an eventual return to the team's starting rotation later this season. Tuesday was the first time that last year's National League Cy Young winner has thrown a baseball since he was diagnosed with a fractured left rib cage almost a month ago. The 36-year-old veteran southpaw should pitch for the Braves again this year, but by the time he returns, there won't be much time left for him to make an impact for his fantasy managers. Still, he's worth stashing in all formats for his high-end upside when healthy. In 15 starts before his injury, Sale had gone 5-4 with a 2.52 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 114 strikeouts and 26 walks in 89 1/3 innings pitched.Source: MLB.com - Mark Bowman

Tommy Hawke Leads All Minor-Leaguers With 65 Steals
Tommy Hawke is the current minor league stolen base leader, pacing the field with 65 steals on the season. The 2023 sixth-round draft pick recently earned a promotion to High-A after slashing .309/.453/.382 with 63 steals and walking (53) more than he was striking out (44). With just four games at High-A under his belt, the Wake Forest product is 5-for-18 (.278) with a 1:4 BB:K and two steals. The 23-year-old doesn't have home run power as evidenced by a single career home run in 565 minor league at-bats, but the speed is what makes him intriguing for fantasy. Even so, the diminutive left-handed slugger is likely a couple of seasons away from the majors, and for now, he's off the dynasty radar.Source: MiLB.com
Cleveland Guardians outfield prospect Daiyan Henley Full-Go for Training Camp
Source: NFL.com
Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Daiyan Henley (shoulder) said he expects to be a full participant during training camp after undergoing shoulder surgery this offseason. The third-year pro out of Washington State played in all 17 games last year, so his shoulder procedure appears to have been a minor one. The former third-round pick was a tackling machine in 2024, racking up 147 tackles (84 solo), 10.5 run stuffs, one sack, and one interception. Needless to say, a healthy start to training camp bodes well for his chances to remain productive in 2025. Henley ranks as a top-20 overall player in RotoBaller's preseason IDP rankings.Ching-Hsien Ko Cruising Through Arizona Complex League
Source: MiLB.com
Los Angeles Dodgers outfield prospect Ching-Hsien Ko is currently leading all minor-leaguers (150 at-bat minimum) in batting average and on-base percentage at this point in the season, hitting .370 with a .488 on-base percentage for the ACL Dodgers. The Dodgers' 13th-ranked prospect has reached base via hit or walk in 46 of the 47 games in which he's seen at least one plate appearance, and has collected 15 doubles, a triple, and three home runs along the way. The 18-year-old owns an impressive 35:37 BB:K and even has some speed in his 6-foot-3, 215-pound frame, swiping five bags so far in 2025. It appears a tougher test at Single-A is in order, and the left-handed slugger from Taiwan could begin to creep up the prospect ranks, although he's a few years away from the majors.Bradley Beal Heading to Los Angeles to Join Clippers After Contract Buyout
Bradley Beal agreed to a contract buyout with the Phoenix Suns and plans to join the Los Angeles Clippers on a two-year, $11 million deal with a player option after clearing waivers. Beal provides the Clippers with another offensive threat after Norman Powell was traded earlier in the month. Fantasy managers should be aware that Beal's minutes will likely be reduced since the Clippers' offensive attack revolves primarily around Kawhi Leonard and James Harden.Source: Shams Charania
On Wednesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports that three-time NBA All-Star guard Rayan Rupert Scores 24 Points in Summer League Win
Rayan Rupert logged 24 points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist in 28 minutes during Tuesday's 93-87 Summer League victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. Rupert posted a game-high in points and three-pointers, shooting 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Last season, the 21-year-old averaged 3.0 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.5 assists in 8.8 minutes per game across 52 contests. He posted some strong outings towards the end of last season, so he may get a bigger role in 2025-26. However, Rupert isn't someone worth looking at in fantasy leagues.Source: ESPN
Portland Trail Blazers guard Kurtis Rourke Starting Training Camp on NFI List
Kurtis Rourke (knee) will begin training camp this summer on the Non-Football Injury list after the team's rookies reported to camp on Tuesday. In addition, second-round rookie defensive tackle Alfred Collins has yet to report while being one of the many second-round picks this year that have yet to sign their rookie deals. The 24-year-old Rourke played through a torn ACL in his final collegiate season in 2024 at Indiana, but he will not be ready to practice with the Niners when training camp kicks off next week. When Rourke is cleared to participate in practices, he'll merely be competing for the No. 3 QB role in San Fran behind starter Brock Purdy and backup Mac Jones. The 49ers also have Tanner Mordecai on roster at the QB position this year.Source: The Athletic - Matt Barrows
San Francisco 49ers rookie seventh-round quarterback Derik Queen Collects Third Consecutive Double-Double in Summer League Loss
Derik Queen recorded 17 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal in 28 minutes on the floor in Tuesday's 93-87 Summer League loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. Queen has now posted a double-double in three consecutive Summer League outings, averaging 14.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.0 blocks across 27.3 minutes per game. The playmaking big man's strong performance at Summer League could lead to a significant role in New Orleans frontcourt to kick off the upcoming campaign.Source: ESPN
New Orleans Pelicans center GG Jackson II Records 13 Points in Summer League Action on Tuesday
GG Jackson II finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two blocks in 26 minutes during a 96-84 Summer League loss to the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday after sitting out Saturday's game due to an illness. The 20-year-old missed the first half of the 2024-25 campaign due to a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot and was limited to just 29 regular-season appearances. After several impressive Summer League outings, Jackson could see an uptick in minutes, providing the Grizzlies with an offensive threat off the bench during the upcoming 2025-26 season.Source: ESPN
Memphis Grizzlies forward Johni Broome Logs Double-Double Against Wizards
Johni Broome finished with a double-double in a 74-58 Summer League win over the Wizards. During the contest, Broome logged 14 points, 10 rebounds, one assist and one steal in 29 minutes. He was selected by the 76ers with the 35th pick in the 2025 NBA draft after a standout season at Auburn, where he averaged 18.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.1 blocks across 36 appearances. Barring any injuries with a crowded 76ers frontcourt, Broome will likely find himself out of the rotation or in the G League to start the upcoming campaign.Source: ESPN
On Tuesday, Philadelphia 76ers center Micah Parsons Not Worried About Extension Talks
Source: Penn Live - Nick Farabaugh
Dallas Cowboys All-Pro pass-rusher Micah Parsons is not worried about a contract extension and knows he will get his money eventually. It's why Parsons showed up during the offseason program while still in discussions with the front office about a long-term extension. "I just work harder. Like, to me, I look at it like if people don't see your value, you don't cry and sit down. You just work harder," Parsons said. Even though Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett reset the market, Parsons was also set to break the record for most money for a non-quarterback. "Not really, because I'm just going to get mine no matter what," Parsons said about Garrett's contract affecting his market. The 26-year-old is a high-end IDP fantasy target regardless of his contract situation, as he's had at least 12 sacks in all four of his seasons while also forcing nine fumbles and recording 256 tackles.Broncos Agree to Terms With Jahdae Barron on Rookie Deal
RJ Harvey is the only one of Denver's seven draft picks that has not signed with training camp looming. However, Harvey is one of 30 unsigned second-round picks. Now that the 23-year-old Barron is signed, the 20th overall pick out of Texas will report to training camp on Wednesday with the rest of the team's rookies. He had 67 tackles and a career-best five interceptions for the Longhorns in 2024 and is expected to start immediately in Denver's secondary alongside Patrick Surtain II and Riley Moss.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
The Denver Broncos and first-round cornerback Jahdae Barron agreed to terms on a rookie contract on Wednesday, sources informed of the deal told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Now that Barron has been signed, Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Shemar Stewart is the only first-rounder from April's draft that has yet to sign. Second-round running back
