3 days agoWith second baseman Ozzie Albies (toe) going on the injured list on Tuesday, Atlanta Braves outfielder Michael Harris II has moved up to second in the batting order against the Houston Astros and right-hander Hunter Brown. Meanwhile, Luis Guillorme will get the start at the keystone and will bat eighth. Guillorme and David Fletcher figure to split playing time at second with Albies out, but Harris could be the biggest fantasy beneficiary in Atlanta if he continues to hit at the top of the lineup while Albies is on the shelf. This is the first time this year the 23-year-old has hit higher than sixth. Harris is off to a fine start in 2024, slashing .290/.333/.468 with two home runs and a stolen base. He has never faced Brown in his career but will become a much more popular DFS lineup piece with Albies out.Source: MLB.com
3 days agoChicago White Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenez is back as the designated hitter and is batting third on Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals and right-hander Brady Singer, while first baseman Andrew Vaughn is getting the day off. Jimenez was activated from the injured list on Monday but wasn't in the starting lineup before getting a pinch-hit appearance later in the game. The White Sox are going to ease him back into the fold, but he could see more appearances in the outfield after starting there only 14 of 118 times in 2023. Vaughn has gone 1-for-16 in the last four games and 10-for-58 with no homers and three RBI to begin the year, so he's deserving of a rest. Gavin Sheets is at first base and is batting cleanup on Tuesday.Source: CHGO Sports - Vinnie Duber
3 days agoOakland Athletics outfielder Esteury Ruiz (rest) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. This seems a bit odd after Ruiz blasted a solo home run off the bench during Monday's game. It'll be JJ Bleday continuing to start in center field with Lawrence Butler and Seth Brown in the corners. Ruiz should get his chance to start everyday at some point, but a bench role certainly hurts his fantasy value right now.Source: MLB.com
3 days agoBaltimore Orioles starting pitcher Tyler Wells (elbow) has been placed on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday. The right-hander will take a few weeks off while he recovers from right elbow inflammation. Wells hasn't looked too good this season with a 5.87 ERA and 1.37 WHIP through three starts. Despite that, Wells is still worth rostering in mixed leagues given his good track record. In a corresponding move, catcher David Banuelos has been recalled from Triple-A to take the spot on the roster.Source: Roch Kubatko
3 days agoChicago White Sox starting pitcher Nick Nastrini will stick in the rotation for at least one more start. The organization has announced that Nastrini will make the start against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. The right-hander has earned the chance to stay in the rotation after a solid MLB debut on Monday. The 24-year-old allowed two runs over five innings of work against the Kansas City Royals. He's not a recommended fantasy option against the strong Phillies lineup.Source: Scott Merkin
3 days agoHouston Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander (shoulder) is set to make his return from the injured list. The veteran right-hander will make his season debut either Friday or Saturday versus the Washington Nationals. The 41-year-old has been brought along slowly while he recovers from a shoulder injury. He's finally ready to return after having no issues during a recent bullpen outing. It's uncertain if the Astros will have Verlander on a pitch count or limited in some capacity. Regardless, fantasy managers in season-long formats can get him back in their lineups this weekend.Source: Brian McTaggart
3 days agoKansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (groin) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Chicago White Sox. The veteran catcher has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 left groin strain. Despite that, Perez hasn't been placed on the injured list and is considered as day-to-day. It wouldn't be shocking to see Perez miss a few more games while he recovers from this issue. Freddy Fermin will cover behind the plate and bat eighth during Tuesday's game.Source: Kansas City Royals
3 days agoCincinnati Reds third baseman Jeimer Candelario (illness) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Hopefully, this is a minor issue and will only force Candelario to miss one game. In the meantime, Santiago Espinal will cover third base and bat eighth on Tuesday night. Fantasy managers should make sure to adjust their lineups ahead of Tuesday's contest. Espinal is a good contact hitter, but isn't worth streaming in most fantasy formats.Source: Cincinnati Reds
3 days agoPittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes (undisclosed) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the New York Mets. The organization has not given a reason as to why Hayes was pulled ahead of the game. Jared Triolo will be taking over third base and bat third for Tuesday's game. Fantasy managers should get an update on Hayes status shortly.Source: Pittsburgh Pirates
3 days agoBrendon Todd has not won a tournament in 2024. However, the American golfer has made the cut in all but one event. Furthermore, he comes off a tied for fifth at the Valspar Championship. People forget he had a Top 10 at the Arnold Palmer too. Todd may be 38 but he is playing like it is 2019 once again (won two tournaments). Todd has approached 70% in terms of hitting the green in several events this year much like 2019. Furthermore, he ranks tenth in strokes gained for putting at 0.7. Simply, if Todd can be accurate with his driver and putter, the golfer thrives in conditions like those at the RBC Heritage. Source: PGATour.com
3 days agoThe Milwaukee Brewers placed outfielder Christian Yelich (back) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 13) on Tuesday with a lower-back strain and recalled infielder/outfielder Owen Miller from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move. Yelich was put on the IL after not playing since last Friday. This is definitely an injury that could linger for the 32-year-old Yelich, so fantasy managers should be prepared to be patient if he's forced to miss more than 10 days. Keep him stashed in an IL spot in all fantasy leagues after he started the year hitting .333 (13-for-39) with five home runs, 11 RBI and two steals in 11 games. Blake Perkins is starting in center field and batting sixth against the San Diego Padres and right-hander Dylan Cease on Tuesday, but Joey Wiemer could also see additional playing time in Milwaukee's outfield until Yelich is able to return.Source: Milwaukee Brewers
3 days agoDenny McCarthy has a calling card and that is his putting. The American golfer ranks ninth on the PGA Tour at 0.702 strokes gained. Unfortunately, McCarthy off the tee rolls in at a mere 150th losing 0.347 strokes compared to the field average. Last week, the golfer started off well enough but a 79 on Saturday ended his chances at The Masters. That included two triple bogeys, a double bogey, and bogey on the back nine. McCarthy's bounce back 70 offers hope heading into the RBC Heritage. A few made putts early could bode well for the golfer this week. Source: PGATour.com
3 days agoSan Diego Padres first baseman Jake Cronenworth (calf) is not in the lineup on Tuesday against the Milwaukee Brewers after being pulled from Monday's 7-3 win with calf tightness late in the game. The San Diego Union-Tribune's Kevin Acee points out that the Padres recalled infielder Matthew Batten from Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, which presumably means that Cronenworth will miss some time with his injury. However, he hasn't officially been placed on the injured list, so it could just be a day-to-day situation for now. Jurickson Profar is handling first base and batting third on Tuesday, while Jose Azocar is in left field and batting ninth against Brewers left-hander Wade Miley. Profar is hitting .417 with an RBI in 12 career at-bats against Miley, while Azocar has gone hitless versus the soft-tossing lefty in four career ABs.Source: MLB.com
3 days agoCameron Young has been far more consistent in 2024. The American golfer comes off consecutive Top 10 results including a runner-up result at the Valspar Championship. Even putting has been better for Young the past two tournaments as he has been on the plus side. Furthermore, off the tee and approaching the green have been Young's two biggest strengths. Those Top 20 numbers pave the way for Young to stay around for weekends and even contend at the RBC Heritage. Add in that 69.37% accuracy for Greens In Regulation and Young remains a golfer to watch in South Carolina. Source: PGATour.com
3 days agoMinnesota Twins closer Jhoan Duran (oblique) said he's feeling closer to 100 percent in terms of command after throwing a 25-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday. He's now expected to face live hitters during Friday's pre-game workouts at Target Field. An oblique strain forced the 26-year-old to the injured list to begin the 2024 season, but he recently started throwing off a mound and could be getting close to going on a short minor-league rehab assignment before returning to the Twins' bullpen. If he avoids any setbacks with his oblique, fantasy managers might get the hard-throwing closer back before the calendar flips to May. Given Duran's dominance when healthy, he should be stashed in an IL spot in all fantasy leagues. In his absence, Minnesota is going with a committee approach to saves involving Griffin Jax, Steven Okert, Cole Sands and Brock Stewart.Source: The Athletic - Dan Hayes
3 days agoMatt Fitzpatrick knows that a lot of golfers will be after him this week. The English golfer won the RBC Heritage last year in a dramatic win over Jordan Spieth. Spieth was looking to repeat when Fitzpatrick survived a 16th hole bogey to hold off the American. Fitzpatrick has three consecutive Top 25 results and showed the ability to gain several strokes at a whim on the Hilton Head golf course (see last year's third round 64). Fitzpatrick drives balls just over 300 yards, hits the greens with regularity at 67.34%, and is inside the Top 30 in putting and driver accuracy. That puts Fitzpatrick on the radar again. 3 days agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill (head) cleared the league's concussion protocols and is doing OK after being removed from Monday's game early against the Cleveland Guardians following a collision in the outfield with third baseman Rafael Devers. O'Neill is out of the lineup on Tuesday and will also sit on Wednesday, but manager Alex Cora said he's planning to have O'Neill back in action on Thursday for the series finale against Cleveland. The 28-year-old required eight stitches to close a cut on his head above his left eye, but it appears he won't need to go on the seven-day concussion injured list and should return for fantasy managers later this week. O'Neill has enjoyed his time in Beantown so far, going 15-for-48 (.313) in the early going with seven homers, eight RBI, a steal and 14 runs scored.Source: The Athletic - Jen McCaffrey
3 days agoCollin Morikawa has to wonder what might have been on Sunday. The American golfer was on the precipice of challenging Scottie Scheffler when disaster struck. Morikawa double-bogeyed holes 9 and 11 which ended any chance of him winning The Masters. On the bright side, he still finished tied for third. Morikawa's shot-making hurt but several missed putts on Sunday doomed his afternoon. That putting metric remains bad at 161st on the tour with -0.531 strokes gained. Greens in regulation rank 106th at 65.02% too which is a concern heading to the RBC Heritage.Source: PGATour.com
3 days agoColumbus Blue Jackets goaltender Jet Greaves will make his fourth consecutive start in Tuesday's regular-season finale against the visiting Carolina Hurricanes. The 23-year-old has been given a strong look down the home stretch of the regular season with Elvis Merzlikins sidelined with a lower-body injury (although returning to back up Tuesday). He's had a tough assignment playing behind a very poor Blue Jackets club as he owns a 3.55 goals-against average but also a solid .906 save percentage in eight games (seven starts), going 2-6-0 in that time. He could see an increased role next season with Merzlikins asking for a trade earlier this season and likely on the move this offseason.Source: Jeff Svoboda
3 days agoMiami Marlins left-hander A.J. Puk (illness) is still under the weather and will not make his scheduled start on Wednesday against the San Francisco Giants. Instead, lefty Trevor Rogers will move up to start in the series finale. Puk has now been pushed back twice this week, as he was originally scheduled to pitch in the series opener against the Gigantes on Monday. If the 28-year-old southpaw is feeling better later this week, there's a good chance he'll take the ball for the series opener on Thursday versus the Chicago Cubs. The former sixth overall pick by the Oakland Athletics in 2016 out of Florida hasn't fared too well in his transition to a full-time starting role in 2024 so far, posting a 5.91 ERA and 2.44 WHIP with a league-high 14 walks and just eight K's in his first three starts.Source: Miami Herald - Jordan McPherson

3 days agoCarolina Hurricanes goaltender Spencer Martin will be between the pipes for Tuesday's regular-season finale versus the hosting Columbus Blue Jackets. Both Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov will get a break with the club locked into the two-seed in the Metropolitan Division. The 28-year-old Martin was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jackets earlier in the season and has been excellent for the 'Canes when called upon, turning in a 1.97 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage across five games with Carolina, going 4-0-1 in that time. Martin has appeared in 56 career NHL games, posting a 3.47 GAA and an .889 Sv% in stints with the Avalanche, Canucks, Blue Jackets, and Hurricanes.Source: Walt Ruff
3 days agoFlorida Panthers goaltender Anthony Stolarz is getting the start on Tuesday night against the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs. Sergei Bobrovsky is getting a breather despite the Panthers sitting just one point back of the Bruins for first in the Atlantic Division with one game to go for each club. The decision was aided by the fact Stolarz has been excellent this season. The 30-year-old has worked to a 2.03 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage, both of which rank first in the NHL among qualified netminders. He is 15-7-2 on the season in 26 outings (23 starts). The Bruins host the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.Source: Colby Guy
3 days agoCleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said he is "not sure" when running back Nyheim Hines (knee) will practice with the team for the first time. The 27-year-old is rehabbing from a torn ACL that he suffered off the field last offseason as a member of the Buffalo Bills. Despite that, the Browns signed him to a one-year, $1.15 million deal after free agency began. Since being traded to the Bills in the middle of the 2022 campaign, Hines has rushed for negative three yards and caught five passes for 53 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Cleveland has Nick Chubb (knee), D'Onta Foreman, and Jerome Ford on the roster. That said, it'd be surprising if Hines has a role in the offense this season, but he could be a factor in the kick return game if he can work his way back from the unfortunate injury.Source: NFL.com
3 days agoIt's "very unlikely" that designated hitter J.D. Martinez (back) will join the New York Mets on their upcoming West Coast road trip, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. The Mets begin their road trip this Friday, April 19, against the Los Angeles Dodgers and will wrap it up in San Francisco against the Giants on Wednesday, April 24. Martinez didn't sign with New York until late in spring training, so he stuck around in extended spring training to get his timing down at the plate before injuring his back in early April. The 36-year-old could start a rehab assignment later this week and make his 2024 debut with the Mets later this month or in early May. When he's finally ready to return, Martinez can still provide some thump from the DH spot and will give the Mets more protection for All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso.Source: MLB.com - Anthony DiComo
3 days agoDetroit Red Wings goaltender James Reimer is starting Tuesday's must-win game on the road against the Montreal Canadiens. The Red Wings need a win and a Capitals loss to the Flyers on Tuesday to get into the postseason. They are tied with Washington with 89 points, but the Caps hold the regulation-wins tiebreaker, therefore holding onto the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference entering play Tuesday. Reimer has posted a 3.07 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage across 24 outings (19 starts) on the season, going 10-8-2 in that time. Tuesday's start is just his second over the team's past nine games.Source: Max Bultman
3 days agoVeteran wide receiver Rashard Higgins and linebacker Christian Kirksey are signing one-day contracts with the Cleveland Browns to retire with the organization, the team announced on Tuesday. Higgins was selected by Cleveland in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft and racked up 137 receptions for 1,890 yards and 12 touchdowns in 82 games from 2016 to 2021. He spent the 2022 season with the Carolina Panthers but did not log a snap. Kirkey was a 2014 third-round pick by the Browns and played for the team until 2019 before brief stints with the Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, and Buffalo Bills. Overall, he secured 779 tackles, 16.5 sacks, seven interceptions, and 34 passes defended in 114 career games.Source: Ari Meirov -- 33rd Team
3 days agoNew York Mets outfielder DJ Stewart will start on the bench on Tuesday as the team faces the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. This will be the third straight game that Stewart has started on the bench, although the previous two games were against left-handed pitching. Stewart does have two home runs in his first 25 at-bats of the 2024 campaign, but he's also gone only 5-for-25 (.200) with seven RBI, a stolen base and three runs scored. Catcher Francisco Alvarez is serving as the designated hitter and batting sixth, while Omar Narvaez is doing the catching and hitting ninth on Tuesday against Pirates rookie right-hander Jared Jones. The 30-year-old Stewart might find himself on the bench more often than not moving forward unless he picks things up offensively.Source: MLB.com - Anthony DiComo
3 days agoPittsburgh Pirates shortstop Oneil Cruz is getting the day off on Tuesday against the New York Mets. In his absence, Alika Williams will get the nod at shortstop and will hit in the nine-hole against Mets veteran left-hander Jose Quintana. Cruz will get a little breather against the left-handed hurler after going hitless in his last nine at-bats with seven strikeouts in the last two contests. The 25-year-old Dominican is now hitting .232 (16-for-69) on the year with three home runs, six RBI, one steal and eight runs scored in his first 17 games of 2024. Williams, 25, lacks power and will be a low-upside deep sleeper pick for DFS lineups on Tuesday night. He's hit just .212 (25-for-118) with no homers and eight RBI in 51 MLB games to date going back to last season.Source: MLB.com
3 days agoMontreal Canadiens defensive prospect Logan Mailloux will make his NHL debut on Tuesday at home against the Detroit Red Wings. The controversial blueliner needed clearance by both the NHL and Canadiens to play after a sexual assault transgression while overseas in 2021. The 21-year-old has spent this season playing for the AHL's Laval Rocket, tallying 14 goals and 47 points with 89 penalty minutes and a minus-seven rating across 70 games. He was taken in the first round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Canadiens and recorded 25 goals and 53 points across 59 games in his final season with the OHL's London Knights in the 2022-23 campaign. The Canadiens can eliminate the Red Wings from playoff contention with a victory in their regular-season finale.Source: Montreal Canadiens
