1 month agoBrendon Todd missed the cut at The PLAYERS Championship last week, his second cut in his previous three appearances. He missed the cut in the Valspar Championship last year, and he also missed it in 2022 and 2017. Based on his recent performance, he may also struggle this week at the Copperhead Course. In last year's tournament, over 34% of approach shots came from 150-200 yards, and Todd's proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway ranked in the 22nd percentile in the previous 12 months. While he finished tied for sixth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational two weeks ago, his performance this week may not be as good, making it difficult to trust him in DFS lineups.Source: Data Golf
1 month agoBeau Hossler missed the cut at The PLAYERS Championship last week, his first one of 2024. However, he will have a chance to redeem himself at the Valspar Championship. Hossler has had mixed results at this tournament in the past. He missed the cut in 2023 but finished T39 in 2021. Although Hossler's performance was below par last week, he may face challenges again this week. In the previous 12 months, he has ranked in the sixth percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway. This is significant because over 34% of approach shots came from this distance at last year's tournament. While Hossler's recent form has been solid, his track record at this tournament may make it difficult to trust him in DFS lineups this week.Source: Data Golf
1 month agoEric Cole did not make the cut at last week's The PLAYERS Championship. He scored a 72 in the first round and a disappointing 74 in the second round. In his previous three appearances, he has missed two cuts. But he will get another chance to bounce back at the Copperhead Course for the Valspar Championship this week. Last year, he missed the cut, so he hopes to do better this time. Cole has the potential to perform well at the Copperhead Course. In the previous 12 months, he ranks in the 97th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway. This is significant because over 34% of approach shots came from this distance at last year's event. Cole could be a valuable addition to DFS lineups this week. However, given his recent form and previous missed cut at the tournament, he might be difficult to trust.Source: Data Golf
1 month agoNot even a hole-in-one on the famed 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass was enough for Ryan Fox to make the cut at The Players last week. This was due to a horrible performance off the tee, where the New Zealander lost 1.15 strokes off the tee through two rounds. The other areas of his game were competitive, but nothing is trending per se heading into the Copperhead Course. He is currently ranked 38th (0.338) in strokes gained putting and 55th in strokes gained on approach (0.250), so there is some solace here, but at $9,500 on FanDuel, DFS players will be better served elsewhere.Source: Data Golf
1 month agoMatt NeSmith missed consecutive cuts but bounced back last week at The Players Championship. The American golfer endured a rough final round 72 but that was good enough for a Top 30. result. NeSmith had not been inside the Top 50 all season and had missed three cuts in the previous four events. Again, there are plenty of issue with NeSmith but those seemed to mostly fade at TPC Sawgrass. He was inside the Top 20 until Sunday's final ten holes. NeSmith improved his putting and green approaches (positive in both metrics) overall. That may be a turning point in his 2024 season., Source: PGATour.com
1 month agoErik Barnes has only played 22 events on the PGA Tour. The American golfer even lost in a playoff at the Puerto Rico Open. Barnes lost to Brice Garnett in a playoff. It was one of those weeks where Barnes gained strokes in almost every major metric. That includes putting. His confidence is growing. His scrambling ability has proven to be a major asset. He ranks in the top 3 in scrambling and scrambling from the rough. Barnes firing four rounds in the 60's plus the week rest could make him an interesting DFS option this week. Source: PGATour.com
1 month agoSungjae Im has been one of the most consistent players on the PGA Tour since his rookie season. However, Im has battled two lengthy slumps in the past nine months. For two months from last May to July, Im missed multiple cuts before a few decent finishes sparked a run of top-10 and top-25 finishes. Im hit another skid at the end of January but two improved events in the past two weeks suggest he might be ready for another run of high finishes.Source: pgatour.com
1 month agoBen Silverman had been on a decent run of good golf before The Players Championship. The Canadian golfer fell a little flat after missing the cut. The second round 74 was marred by missed shots and putts. Silverman may struggle again this week as his driving distance (286.5 a drive) could be problematic. He is one of those golfers who has good metrics mostly but cannot put four rounds together. Silverman does not have one Top 10 despite an overall strokes gained that ranks 19th on the PGA Tour. Silverman might have another tough week at the Valspar Championship. Source: PGATour.com
1 month agoK.H. Lee has had three results in the top 30 but four missed cuts. The South Korean golfer has had an eventful 2024 so far. He finished tied for fourth at the Cognizant Classic. Unfortunately, he followed that up with a 75-76 at The Players Championship and missed the cut. Lee drives the ball well enough and is pretty accurate. However, he is just 62.15% in hitting greens in regulation (175th). Even his approaches and scrambling from the rough rank outside the top 150. Lee needs to improve off the tee and when approaching the green, where he ranks outside the top 100. Lee must find the form he had a few weeks ago.Source: PGATour.com
1 month agoThe hope that the Florida swing would help Cameron Young's putter problems has died. After a positive putting week at the Cognizant Classic led to a T4, Young has cratered once again. Both short-game statistics have been a struggle for Young as he ranks No. 137 in around-the-green and No. 122 in strokes gained putting. Young's ball-striking has been among the best on the PGA Tour, but he continues to waste chances to convert birdies and climb leaderboards.Source: pgatour.com
1 month agoMatt Kuchar has missed the cut in six of his first seven events in 2024. The American golfer has nine career wins but has shown none of that form lately. Actually his last PGA tour came more than five years ago at the Sony Open. The 45-year old is in the red in most major metrics. He averages 285 yards a drive. Now, the 7,340 yard Par-71 Valspar course can be unforgiving. Kuchar has a scoring average of 71 which is 161st on the tour. Considering winning scores at this Florida course are around 268 (-16). Kuchar may struggle again this week trying to make enough birdies to see Saturday. Source: PGATour.com
1 month agoAfter Brian Harman started the season strong in Hawaii, it had been a struggle. Harman's best finish in February was a T44, but things changed once he got to Florida. Harman struggled over the weekend at the Arnold Palmer Invitational but nearly chased down a win at The Players on Sunday. Harman's ball-striking and putting have improved, and he can scramble with anyone. His form and skills line up well this week to contend once again.Source: pgatour.com
1 month agoThe Jordan Spieth experience is never a straightforward one, but this season has been a lot, even for him. Spieth ranks No. 9 in total strokes gained on the PGA Tour this season but is losing strokes on approach. His putting (No. 9) and around-the-green skills (No. 14) are doing the heavy lifting for Spieth, and while scrambling is important this week, his wild ball-striking may be too much to overcome.Source: pgatour.com
1 month agoIt has been a quiet first half of the season compared to the noise Lucas Glover made at the end of last year. The play with his irons has been as spectacular as ever, as he ranks 10th in strokes gained on approach (0.637). However, the bookend pieces haven't cooperated nearly as much, as the former US Open champion ranks 93rd in strokes gained off the tee (-0.013) and 161st in strokes gained putting (-0.734). He has a wealth of course history from the Copperhead Course to look back on, and while he hasn't come close to winning, he has made the cut in all but four of his 18 starts. At $8,900 on FanDuel, he's a safer pick to get you to the weekend, but anything past that is suspect.Source: PGA Tour
1 month agoDespite a second missed cut at a signature event, Justin Thomas' game is in good shape. Thomas ranks No. 6 in strokes gained this season and No. 10 tee to green. Thomas' putting is very sporadic and he hits a few errant drives per event, but covers it up with elite iron play and scrambling skills. The latter are the two most important metrics this week and explain why he has three top-10 finishes at the event in seven starts. If his ownership is done after last week, he's certainly worth playing.Source: pgatour.com
