Nyheim Hines 2019 Outlook: A Potential PPR Sleeper?
6 years agoWhile the Indianapolis Colts did bring in Spencer Ware to bolster their running back group, the team’s rotation at the position shouldn’t look much different than it did in 2018, with Marlon Mack serving as the team’s lead back and Nyheim Hines serving as a valuable option on passing downs. Last year, Hines rushed for 314 yards and two touchdowns on 85 carries, but the receiving game was where he found his value, catching 63 passes for 425 yards and a pair of scores. Hines averaged five yards per touch during his rookie campaign, and with the rest of the backs on the team being more valuable in the run game than in the pass game, Hines is likely to maintain a pretty consistent role heading into his second NFL season. While the loss of quarterback Andrew Luck does limit some of his upside as the Colts may struggle to have as many offensive snaps under quarterback Jacoby Brissett, his catch totals make him an interesting sleeper in PPR and worth consideration in the 12th or 13th round. He’s got a ceiling that’s capped by the more-talented Mack, but Hines will take advantage of the snaps and touches he does get and produce strong numbers on those touches. If he can just convert a few more of his opportunities into touchdowns, he can be a consistent and useful part of fantasy lineups, but even as is, Hines will be a solid bye week fill-in, though it's tough to count on a pass-catcher in the Colts offense to be able to produce much more than that now.
