Nick Chubb 2018 Outlook: Extremely Wide Range Of Outcomes
6 years agoIt is very difficult to project Nick Chubb because there are so many variables. First, there's the question as to whether he is the same prospect he was before his devastating knee injury. Second, there's the question of whether Cleveland's offense will be good enough to generate enough scoring opportunities for their power back. Third, there's the question of whether that power back will be Chubb. I lean more on the side of liking Chubb long term and would go so far as to guarantee he is the starter in 2019. But that doesn't help us in 2018. Carlos Hyde is going to be the Week 1 starter and I have a hard time envisioning a scenario where Chubb usurps Hyde absent an injury. With that being said, Hyde is not the pinnacle of health. He missed nine games in 2015 and three games in 2016. If Hyde does get hurt and Chubb excels in his place, that could be all she wrote for Hyde. That still doesn't mean Chubb will have a ton of value, though, as this Browns offensive improvement is still highly speculative. Chubb has a low receptions ceiling with Duke Johnson in that role so he will need yards and touchdowns to be a fantasy asset. I think the talent is there, but too many things have to break right for Chubb to matter in 2018 for me to be willing to gamble.
