3 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Michael Wacha will likely be in the starting rotation "if he's physically able," according to general manager John Mozeliak. The reason for that is that top prospect Alex Reyes (elbow) is feared to have a season-ending UCL tear in his right elbow that could require Tommy John surgery. Wacha had a very disappointing season in 2016 (5.09 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 7.4 K/9 in 138 innings), and a shoulder injury in the second half didn't help his cause. He was ticketed for a relief role this year if not for the Reyes news. His fantasy value is technically on the rise with the new opportunity, but three straight years of a decline in strikeout rate isn't a good sign. He'll likely have a short leash in the No. 5 spot if he struggles, too, so consider the right-hander only in NL-only leagues as depth.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
