12/10:New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said the team remains "very high" on first baseman Dominic Smith. This contradicts statements that Mets brass made earlier this offseason on Smith, and they've even been attached to several free-agent first baseman this winter. Smith, one of the team's top prospects, struggled to a .198/.262/.395 slash line with nine home runs and 26 RBI in his first 49 games in the major leagues. While Smith was more of a contact-oriented hitter in the minors with not as much power, he showed the opposite in his first taste of the big leagues. He could turn things around in his first full season, but fantasy owners won't be expecting much in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. Smith's fantasy value will take a hit if the Mets sign another first baseman to platoon with him.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
