12/15:Free-agent outfielder Melvin Upton signed a one-year contract with the Cleveland Indians, first reported by The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. While this a minor league deal, once Upton makes the 2018 MLB roster, he is due $1.5 million. While he slashed a respectable .257/.313/.435 (103 OPS plus) with 21 homers and 29 stolen bases in 2015-2016 with the Padres, Upton only made 12 Triple-A appearances last season. The Indians are hoping that Upton has a similar impact as outfielder Austin Jackson last season, who hit .318 in 280 at-bats for the American League Central champions.--Chris Zolli - RotoBaller
