3/15:Max Fried has some serious upside as a big-time lefty capable of whiffing elite batters and potentially pitching late into the game. Fried can hit 96 mph on the gun with a devastating curve as a left-handed pitcher. He lacks control of the strike zone, but that is likely mainly due to him cleaning up his landing foot and arm path than it is his raw ability to throw for strikes. His mechanics do tend to get a bit sloppy later in the game as he lowers his release point, but with an offseason of conditioning, he should be in great shape to return to form. The encouraging thing is that history suggests that a pitcher recovering from Tommy John regains velocity and then control. This control should help him upgrade his changeup as well as improve his K/9 by the end of 2017. Conditioning, arm strength and regaining control of his offspeed pitches are what could keep him from moving in that direction. The Braves are far too talented of an organization to see any of those things hinder his growth. With a full season of innings, expect to see Fried move quickly through the organization with a chance at a September or spring training call-up in the next 18 months.--Joshua Schwager
