Mauricio Dubon 2020 Outlook: Source for Average, Pop, Maybe Steals
5 years agoMauricio Dubon is currently being overlooked as a potential contributor to the Giants in 2020. He’ll have to hold off the likes Kean Wong and Donovan Solano for playing time but he has the highest ceiling of the three players. Dubon missed most of 2018 after an ugly knee injury that negated some of his speed (He stole 38 bases in 2017) but he appeared to get stronger during the layoff and added home run pop in 2019. After a previous career-high of eight homers, Dubon went deep 24 times between Triple-A and the Majors. He also significantly increased his line-drive rate so the power spike looks legitimate as long as the juiced ball is around. He’s always been a strong hitter for average and has hit more than .300 on numerous occasions, although he makes so much contact that he doesn’t walk much. If Dubon does find his legs again and starts running more, he becomes even more interesting.
