2 years agoMatt Ryan is the current reigning MVP, a feat no one envisioned prior to 2016. His numbers speak for themselves; 4,944 yards, 38 touchdowns, 69.9 completion percentage, and just seven interceptions. Those loaded stats netted him his first top-five finish among fantasy quarterbacks. That's actually an overlooked aspect of Ryan's performance when you consider his 2017 outlook. Particularly at the quarterback position, we've seen players explode, heavily inflating their ADP the following year, only to come crashing back down to reality. Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford, and Cam Newton were all in first round contention after their breakout years and ended up disappointing. Being ranked as a top-five QB heading into 2017 could be a risky proposition for Ryan as he'll have to at least come close to those numbers to justify a high ranking. Again, 2016 was his only top-five finish in nine seasons in the league. Throw in the departure of offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and it could spell trouble. All that said, Ryan isn't going to "hurt" you if you take him in the middle rounds. Just be prepared for the possibility that he doesn't end up with MVP-caliber numbers for a second year in a row.--Frankie Soler - RotoBaller
