Marquise Brown 2019 Player Outlook: 1st Round Draft Pick in Questionable Offense
5 years agoMarquise “Hollywood” Brown was the first wide receiver taken off the board with the 25th pick in the first round. He’ll likely end up the WR1 by the time week 1 rolls around without much competition at the position. However, this Ravens offense is a tough one to succeed in for a WR. They’ve already made it clear how run-heavy they will be, and that’s no surprise with Greg Roman at the helm. Over the last six seasons, all six teams Roman has led finished 29-32nd in pass attempts. Marquise Brown is also a deep threat, drawing comparisons of Tyreek Hill and DeSean Jackson. He averaged 18.1 YPC in his last year at Oklahoma. Lamar Jackson will take some deep threats, but he's more comfortable checking down to possesion receivers and tight ends. You can expect 80-100 targets to come Brown's way, but his catch rate can’t be expected to exceed 60% with Lamar Jackson at the helm. Jackson completed just 36% of deep routes in 2018 and targeted his WR1 just 22% of the time. Hollywood Brown is a solid high-upside value pick if you can get him in the 13th round.
