Malcolm Brown 2020 Outlook: Bigger Role On Tap?
5 years agoLos Angeles Rams running back Malcolm Brown started 2019 on the right foot, finishing Week 1 with 11 carries for 53 yards and two touchdowns. Brown's workload that week nearly replicated Todd Gurley's volume, and his scoring output made many wonder if he was due to take over as the No. 1 option on the depth chart. However, the following weeks had a different narrative than the one we saw during the inaugural game of the year, with the 26-year-old not finding the end zone again until halfway through November. He still managed to end the year with five touchdowns in total, and finish behind Gurley in rushing production. With Gurley now an Atlanta Falcon, the door appeared to be open for Brown and Darrell Henderson to take on more prominent roles within the organization. The team then picked up Florida State back Cam Akers in the NFL Draft, resulting in Brown's value from a fantasy perspective to become unclear. He will get some work this season, but how much he will concede to both Henderson and Akers is unknown, making him a semi-adequate, late-round handcuff in 12-team leagues and up.
