Kyren Williams 2022 Outlook: Lack Of Size And Speed Sets Him Up For Complementary Role
2 years agoThe Los Angeles Rams traded up to take Kyren Williams out of Notre Dame with the No. 164 overall pick in the fifth round in this year's draft. He carried the ball 211 times for 1,125 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2020 to win ACC Rookie of the Year and finished with 204 totes for 1,002 rushing yards and 14 scores in his final collegiate season. The 21-year-old can also catch passes out of the backfield, totaling 78 receptions for 675 yards and four touchdowns for the Irish, but his sub-par speed might make him primarily a complementary back in the NFL. Williams has a shot to overtake Darrell Henderson for backup duties behind Cam Akers this year, but a broken foot suffered this offseason could hinder his development early on. The 5-foot-9, 194-pounder has good balance and a knack for finding the hole, but he's unlikely to ever become anything more than a third-down specialist for the Rams.
