Kyle Lewis 2020 Outlook: Big-Time Power but Low Batting Average
5 years agoKyle Lewis was a highly-regarded college prospect who fell on hard times in pro ball due to a litany of injury issues and struggles to make consistent contact. The slugging outfielder entered pro ball in 2016 but didn’t play 100 games in a season until 2019 when earned a promotion to the Majors despite just average numbers in Double-A. The juiced ball and Lewis were a match made in heaven and he slugged six home runs in just 18 games; in comparison, he went deep just 11 times in 122 minor league games. His Major League BB-K of 3-29 left something to be desired but there is a high tolerance for swing-and-miss in today’s game so Lewis should have plenty of rope while trying to seize the everyday job in left field. Admittedly, there is significant “bust” risk here but the offensive potential is much higher than fellow rookie Jake Fraley. If he can temper his approach with additional maturation as a hitter, Lewis has shown the ability to hit balls a very long way without having to sell out for the power. And power will always be a sought-after commodity in both fantasy baseball and Major League Baseball.
