Kenny Golladay 2019 Outlook: Will Detroit Give Him A Chance To Shine?
6 years agoDetroit Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay was handed the keys to the kingdom when Golden Tate was traded last season. He didn’t do much with it, hauling in just 70 passes for 1,063 yards and five touchdowns. Those numbers led the team by a long shot, but when you consider that the only other wide receiver on the team to play more than 10 games was T.J. Jones, it doesn’t bode well for Golladay. The third-year pass catcher has had high expectations since entering the league, and for the most part has proven to be an above average wide receiver. However, he hasn’t become the face of the franchise like some had hoped. Nonetheless, he comes into 2019 with the same expectations of being the piece that helps carry the Lions back to relevance. He’s proven able to be a dual-threat receiver, being reliable in both short-to-mid-level routes, as well as deeper passes. Although, an average of 12.7 Target Air Yards doesn’t correlate well with Matthew Stafford’s average of seven intended air yards. Combine the addition of new offensive coordinator, Darrell Bevell, who hopes to employ a run-heavy offense, and Golladay doesn’t seem to be trending towards increased production. At an ADP of 43 in standard leagues, it won’t be hard to find similar production at a cheaper price.
