Kenneth Gainwell 2023 NFL Player Outlook: New RB Additions Make Opportunities Limited Moving Forward
2 years agoAfter what seemed to be shaping up like an excellent opportunity for Philadelphia Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell to have an expanded role with RB Miles Sanders moving on, Philadelphia decided to bring in some big names in their return attempt for the Super Bowl in 2024. The Philadelphia running back room now features returnees Boston Scott and Gainwell, former Lions RB De'Andre Swift, and former Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny. Gainwell may have the advantage of knowing the playbook, but Swift and Penny will certainly make it hard for him to have a huge role. After what was supposed to be a slight breakout sophomore season in the NFL, the former fifth-rounder had only one game during the 2022-23 regular season with 30 or more snaps. However, Gainwell and Sanders split touches nearly 50/50 in the team's last four games, with Gainwell seeing more significant usage on passing downs. This will definitely be a wait-and-see approach as we need training camp to get a read on how HC Nick Sirianni and the rest of the coaching staff plan to use the 4 RBs. At the FFPC ADP of 177th overall in PPR formats, the current outlook on Gainwell would place him as a late-round flier. With the uncertainty, he would be in consideration for best ball and deep-league formats.
