Kareem Hunt 2018 Outlook: Will He Repeat as NFL Rushing Leader?
6 years agoOne of the major surprises from the 2017 season was the emergence of Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt following the ACL injury to Spencer Ware. Hunt went from being the projected back-up for the team to the leading rusher in the NFL with 1,327 rushing yards. Quite notable, however, was a seven-game stretch in the middle of the season where he had 96 rushes for just 321 yards (3.3 YPC) and zero touchdowns. In the other nine games, he had 176 carries for 1,006 yards (5.7 YPC) and eight touchdowns.
He did prove to be a terrific dual-threat RB out of the backfield as he totaled 53 catches for 455 yards and an additional three touchdowns. There will be a new QB running the show for Kansas City in Patrick Mahomes and the team also added Sammy Watkins in the off-season, so the offense will be slightly different. While Ware could take a few carries away, the inexperience at QB could cause the team to lean on the run game more heavily. Be confident in taking a returning constant to the offense in Hunt in the mid-to-late second round.
