Justin Jefferson 2020 Outlook: A Nifty Late Flier, Strong Dynasty Prospect
5 years agoThe Vikings addressed a suddenly glaring need at WR in the NFL Draft when they picked LSU’s Justin Jefferson 22nd overall. A superb all-around receiving prospect, Jefferson is ticketed to fill the hole in the starting lineup left by the departure of Stefon Diggs. In his final year with the Tigers, Jefferson led the FBS with 111 receptions and finished second in the nation with 18 TD catches. He totaled 1,540 receiving yards and averaged 13.9 yards per catch. Jefferson does need to polish his route running, but he is capable of making all types of catches and excels at winning the battles for 50/50 balls. Jefferson can make the important possession grabs and also contribute some big plays. Jefferson did much damage out of the slot at LSU, but Adam Thielen is entrenched in that role for Minnesota. Still, the Vikings believe he can be effective all over the field. As a tall, rangy wideout with a great wingspan, Jefferson seems to be an ideal complement for Thielen as a rookie and can eventually emerge as a top wideout for the Vikes. The ADP of 151 seems fair for a WR depth pick with some upside. Jefferson could be a quality late flier at that slot if he catches 60-plus balls, with 800-plus yards and six TDs. For dynasty purposes, the RotoBaller staff ranks him fifth at WR, but it would not be surprising for him to eventually become the third best wideout or so in this year’s class. Jefferson is a strong late first/early second round rookie draft choice.
