Julio Jones 2021 Outlook: A Falcon has Landed
4 years agoNow that it is official, we can talk about the impact Julio Jones will make on his new team. After the trade from Atlanta to Tennessee, Julio brings a hall of fame resume to a team which, despite A.J. Brown being there, lacks a strong WR group. This can no longer be said. Julio spent a lot of 2020 injured, missing seven games last season. This led to an extremely disappointing season for both he and the Falcons. But when he was healthy, he averaged 16.2 ppg, good for an overall WR14 finish. At age 32, he is nearing the end, but he still has 1-3 years left in him. Although still able to be the WR1 on a team’s roster, with Brown in toe, he will not have to be so each and every week. As good as Julio is, Brown is may be better. These teammates rank first and second over the past two years in yards per route run. This should allow Ryan Tannehill to pass the ball more. Do not expect this team to turn into the Falcons where Matt Ryan led the league in completions in 2019 and attempts in 2019 and 2020, but the Titans will now be able to take a bit of the load off Derrick Henry and not have him carry the ball 350 times a game - I mean season. Although Julio has only gotten to 10 touchdowns once in his career, he has averaged more than 90 receiving yards per game in his career. The biggest change for Julio will be the massive targeting he's seen. He's not going to see 180 targets, but this number will not fall off a cliff and neither will Julio. Even at a more reasonable 140 targets, Julio is elite. 90 receptions for 1,400 yards and six touchdowns is within his range of outcomes, which means a top 10 WR season could be in the cards once again. Julio is currently going off the board as the WR 15 for fantasy. This should increase as the season draws closer and fantasy managers feel more confident about his health. If you are in best ball or in early drafts, he is a great selection at this point. Although his value goes down as his draft price goes up, he still remains a value as long as he does not creep into the first round.
