Juan Lagares To Come Off Bench For Mets
7 years agoPrior to about 9 pm on January 10th, there was a very real chance New York Mets outfielder Juan Lagares would have been the team’s everyday starting centerfielder in 2018. Then, the Mets decided to bring back outfielder Jay Bruce, and now Lagares is back to his role coming off the bench. This is for the best; Lagares has always been a significantly better fielder than hitter, and makes for an ideal defensive replacement late in games. He’s certainly not going to get enough plate appearances, barring injury, to be worth a draft pick in any league. Even if he does see more time than expected, a .career .257/.297/.366 slash line isn’t doing anyone any favors.
