Jose Urena Looks To Replicate Successful 2017 Campaign In 2018
7 years agoYou could make the argument that starting pitcher Jose Urena was the most surprising player for the Miami Marlins last season. Urena, who has spent the majority of his young big-league career as a reliever, began last season out of the bullpen after being beaten out by Adam Conley for the final spot in the rotation. By the end of the season, though, Urena led the Marlins with an incredible 14-7 record to go with a 3.82 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. Despite his sub-6.00 K/9 last year, Urena finished in the National League's top-10 in both wins and winning percentage. Only once last season did Urena lose back-to-back starts, a stat that speaks to his ability to bounce back after a tough outing. Urena could very well be Miami's Opening Day starter, so keep your eye out for him when looking for your third or fourth starter this year.
