Jose Altuve 2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Could All-Star Second Baseman Spend Time in the Outfield in 2025?
Jose Altuve returned for a healthy year in 2024, generating a strong .295/.350/.439 line with 20 home runs and 22 stolen bases in 153 games. He not only earned his seventh Silver Slugger award but also stole the most bases in a season since his 32 in 2017. Altuve's OPS+ in his age 34 season was 126, or 26% better than the league average. Even though he remains one of the better options at the keystone position, there were small signs that age might be catching up to Altuve as he enters his mid-30's. While Altuve's hard-hit rate (31.2%) and strikeout rate (17.4%) both stayed the same from 2023, his walk rate dropped from 10.7% to 6.9% and his O-Swing% jumped from 30.8% to 37.5%. As talks remain ongoing between Alex Bregman and the Astros, Altuve has indicated he is willing to make a move to left field to accommodate Bregman if it means getting to re-sign the two-time World Series champion. With only slight concerns about decreased batting production at age 35 and a possible addition of outfield eligibility incoming, fantasy baseball drafters should feel confident about taking Altuve as the overall 56th pick in NFBC drafts, the second second-baseman taken overall.
