John Ross 2019 Player Outlook: Now Or Never
6 years agoCincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross will look to finally make an impact in his third season in the league. After a disappointing rookie season that saw the former Washington standout receive only two targets while playing in just three games as a result of shoulder and knee injuries, he semi-turned things around during his sophomore campaign. The 23-year-old would finish last season with 21 receptions on 58 targets for 210 yards and an impressive seven touchdowns throughout 13 games. With former head coach Marvin Lewis out of the equation and the arrival of former Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor, it is now or never for Ross to finally make a mark under a new offense. While his low reception rate from previous seasons makes him a questionable choice for PPR formats, his breakaway speed creates the potential for end zone trips on deep routes. With veteran receiver A.J. Green potentially being dealt at some point before becoming an unrestricted free agent after this upcoming season, the door is open for Ross to move up the depth chart on a team that hasn't made any notable moves on the offensive side of the ball. Though Tyler Boyd and Green will both quasi-battle for the first two receiver spots, Ross is worth taking a look at in the later rounds of all formats.
