John Brown 2019 Outlook: Does Being The Bills Best Receiver Mean Anything?
6 years agoLast year, John Brown joined the Baltimore Ravens after four seasons in Arizona and put up solid numbers early in the season, catching 31 passes for 601 yards and four touchdowns in the nine games that Joe Flacco played. But the Ravens chose to go with a more run-oriented offensive approach after that, putting rookie Lamar Jackson into the starting quarterback role, and over the final seven games, Brown’s production vanished as he caught just eight passes for 114 yards and a touchdown. There lies the problem for Brown as he joins the Bills this season: he’s a guy who’s best used down the field, but is in an offense that has trouble getting the ball down the field. Bills quarterback Josh Allen is a little more likely to throw the ball deep, but his deep ball completion percentage of 26.2 percent doesn’t bode well for Brown. Brown’s a talented receiver, but in an offense that’s set to be as focused on the run and the short passing game as this one is, he’s probably a fantasy WR4 or WR5 at best, with his upside linked directly to Josh Allen’s potential improvement. If you aren’t a believer in that, it’ll be hard for you to believe in Brown.
