Johan Camargo 2020 Outlook: Braves Utility Infielder May Not Get Enough At Bats to Matter
5 years agoJohan Camargo stumbled a bit in 2019 after two solid seasons to begin his career with the Braves. A brutal .663 OPS and an infield full of studs ahead of him on the depth chart led to a forgettable 248 plate appearances for the 26-year-old. He's in an interesting position for 2020, as his role on the team will likely be determined by where free agent Josh Donaldson lands. If he is back with the Braves, Camargo will be relegated to utility infielder once again, and likely won't merit consideration in fantasy circles. However, if the Braves miss on Donaldson it will likely be Camargo who steps in to start at third base, unless young slugger Austin Riley shows significant improvement at the plate. If he starts regularly, he could put up some decent counting stats in the potent Braves lineup, but he will always play with Riley waiting in the wings.
