Jharel Cotton Will Miss 2018 Season
7 years agoOakland Athletics starting pitcher Jharrel Cotton will miss the 2018 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. This is a disappointment, as he worked to put a weak 2017 season in the past. Cotton burst onto the scene in 2016 for Oakland with a very promising first 30 innings in the majors. That success continued early in 2017, and then his season spiraled out of control. He finished the season with a 9-10 record and a 5.58 ERA. He is a young pitcher whose control got away from him. His K/9 stayed relatively the same in his second year as it was in his first, so if he can limit the walks and home runs from 2017, he can still be a useful pitcher in the future. Either way, that future will have to be in 2019, as his 2018 season is over before it even started.
