Jesus Sanchez 2022 Player Outlook: Power Source To Target Late In Drafts
3 years agoMiami Marlins outfielder Jesus Sanchez saw his first extended look in the majors last year and produced some promising results. Over 64 games, he slashed .251/.319/.489 with 14 home runs, 36 RBI and 27 runs. He made a lot of hard contact over that 64-game stretch with a 12.7% barrel rate, a 42.7% hard-hit rate and a 113.9 mph max exit velocity. On the negative side, his home run total was inflated by a gaudy 27.5% HR/FB rate and he showed some strikeout concerns. He had a 31.1% strikeout rate, which continued a trend from his first, brief stint in the majors in 2020, when he struck out in 11 of his 29 plate appearances. 2022 will be the first year in which Sanchez gets an opportunity at an everyday job in the majors out of the gate. There's a good chance he hits in the middle of the team's lineup and sticks there for the bulk of the year. He's someone who is being drafted outside the top-250 right now and that might be a mistake. Keep him on your radar if you need power upside or outfield help late in your draft.
