Jessie Bates III 2022 NFL Player Outlook: Holding Out For New Deal, Could Be On The Move?
2 years agoCincinnati Bengals safety Jessie Bates III is coming off a down season. He finished the season with career lows in interceptions (1), pass deflections (4), tackles (88), and solo tackles (67). On the bright side, he did step it up in the playoffs to help the Bengals reach the Super Bowl. Cincinnati franchise-tagged the 25-year-old, but according to Tyler Dragon, the All-Pro safety has "no intentions" of showing up to training camp without a new deal. As expected, Bates did not show up to training camp, and it seems being traded to another team might be the best move for both sides. The Bengals drafted safeties Dax Hill and Tycen Anderson in April, meaning that Bates could be expendable. Whether playing on the Bengals or any other team, Bates will still be one of the better defensive players on the field. In deeper leagues, a roster spot for the safety is a no-brainer. In shallow roster leagues, managers should monitor his situation.
