Jeff Wilson 2021 Outlook: Meniscus Tear Renders Him Undraftable
4 years agoThe ambiguity in the 49ers' backfield is what results in sometimes as many as four San Francisco running backs ending up with redraft ADPs. Jeff Wilson has never impressed me, but I'm not Kyle Shanahan. Although Raheem Mostert's inability to stay on the field opened the door, the reality is Wilson straight up took Mostert's job even when Mostert was healthy. There was a very real chance Wilson was going to be the guy with the most value this season. Unfortunately, he tore his meniscus at practice in late May and will be out at least October, with his entire season in jeopardy. The 49ers will likely turn back to Mostert as their lead back out of the gate, while rookies Trey Sermon and Elijah Mitchell will have opportunities to earn more work. Wayne Gallman is now a lock to make the team as well. By the time Wilson returns, which is no guarantee to happen at all, he may not have a role to return to. Wilson should not be selected in even the deepest of redraft leagues.
