9 months agoNew York Mets infielder Jeff McNeil is "penciled" in as the team's starting second baseman heading into next year, according to general manager Brodie Van Wagenen. McNeil burst onto the scene this year after being a relative unknown in their prospect ranks, but all he did was hit. The 26-year-old hit an impressive .329/.381/.471 with three home runs, 19 RBI and seven stolen bases in 63 games with New York. He hadn't shown much power in the minor leagues until earlier this year, so don't expect that to be a big part of his game. He also had a high .359 BABIP in a small sample size in the big leagues, so McNeil's average is unlikely to float above .300 again in a full season in 2019. Still, he's worth a look as a late-round infielder in mixed leagues if he wins the job at the keystone.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
