3/20:After a dreadful stretch to end the 2016 regular season, it appeared reliever Jeanmar Gomez would be on the outs as Phillies closer. After all, setup man Hector Neris out-pitched Gomez and even wound up recording a couple of saves himself. With two weeks to go before opening day, however, the Venezuelan right-hander appears to be safe in terms of the job. Phillies manager Pete Mackanin admitted Gomez was his closer “right now” on Saturday. This spring, the 29-year-old has pitched to a 1.17 ERA in six appearances, pitching well enough to enter the season as closer. For now, it appears safe to target Gomez as a late-round closer option. Owners must remain weary of his ability to maintain the role, however.--Ricky Delgado - RotoBaller
