Jarvis Landry 2021 Outlook: Low-Ceiling WR4 in Run-Heavy Offense
4 years agoJarvis Landry has topped 100 targets in each of his first seven seasons in the NFL, but those targets have decreased each year in Cleveland. Last season, that culminated in a career-low 101 targets on a Browns offense that attempted just 31.8 passes per game (fifth-fewest in the NFL) under new head coach Kevin Stefanski. The bigger cause for concern is Landry's decreasing snap share. He played fewer than 80% of the snaps in 14 of 15 games in 2020. Compare that to 2019 when he played fewer than 80% of the snaps in just one of 16 games. This was likely due to the fact that the Browns ran 12 personnel more in 2020 under Stefanski than they had in previous years. In fact, they used 12 personnel on 28% of their offensive plays, sixth-most in the NFL. With a stable of tight ends in Austin Hooper, David Njoku, and Harrison Bryant, the Browns felt comfortable limiting Landry's snaps last season. Cleveland finished 11-5 and made the playoffs for the first time since 2002, so it's not likely Landry's snaps and targets go up very much, if at all. Even with the extra game, 2021 could be the first time we see Landry targeted fewer than 100 times in a season. There will be higher upside wide receivers available at a similar ADP, but Landry remains a viable option as a WR4 in PPR leagues.
