Jarren Duran 2022 Player Outlook: Needs To Reduce Strikeouts, Elite Speed Makes The Prospect A Fantasy Asset
3 years agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran displayed a lack of discipline at the plate and appeared overmatched in the big leagues in 2021. He slashed .215/.241/.336 with two home runs, 10 RBI, 17 runs scored, and two stolen bases over 112 plate appearances. The 25-year-old walked an abysmal 3.6% walk rate and owned a whopping 35.7% strikeout rate. He's shown the ability to be a threat on the base paths, evidenced by swiping 16 bags over 60 games in Triple-A Worcester. The Red Sox top prospect also owned a .307 career minor league batting average and .357 minor league career OBP. According to Baseball Savant, his sprint speed is in the 96th percentile. Duran will look to improve from his rookie season and has the upside to steal 15 bags if he can get on base consistently. ATC projections are on board with this assessment and have Duran slashing .254/.311/.408 with 10 home runs and 13 steals over 397 plate appearances. Suppose he can secure an opportunity to play every day and turn things around from his rough rookie year. In that case, Duran could be a valuable fantasy asset at his 362 ADP and provide a boost in stolen bases for managers searching for speed in the later rounds of 2022 drafts.
