James Washington 2021 Outlook: Same as Last Year
4 years agoNew year, same James Washington. By no means is Washington a bad player. In fact, he's probably better than most teams' WR3s. Unfortunately, he's on one of the few teams where he is very clearly the fourth best receiver. Washington opened last season as the WR3 and had a couple solid games here and there, usually when Steelers WR1 Diontae Johnson was out with an injury. But Washington's snap share dropped considerably after Chase Claypool broke out. Over the course of the season, Washington played just 45% of the snaps. JuJu Smith-Schuster was expected to leave, but he returned to Pittsburgh on a one-year deal. He will return to his WR2 role with Claypool taking over as the clear WR3. Ben Roethlisberger, even at his advanced age, can make three wide receivers relevant. He cannot make four relevant. Washington has the ability to produce if he finds his way into a starting role. He will need at least one, if not two injuries to make that happen. Keep Washington's name in the back of your mind should the worst happen to JuJu, Diontae, or Claypool, but no need to have Washington anywhere near your standard sized draft board. He's nothing more than a deep dynasty stash at this point.
