Jamaal Williams Signing Two-Year Deal With Lions
4 years agoFormer Green Bay Packers running back Jamaal Williams is signing a two-year deal worth up to $7.5 million with the Detroit Lions on Tuesday night, according to a source. A fourth-round pick in 2017, Williams rushed for 505 yards on 119 carries and had 236 receiving yards last season on 31 receptions. The writing was on the wall for the 25-year-old to leave Green Bay after the Packers inked Aaron Jones to a four-year contract extension earlier this week. He's a versatile back that can contribute in both phases of the offense, but he might not see all that much playing time behind D'Andre Swift. Williams will also have to compete for touches with Kerryon Johnson in Detroit's backfield, so he may only be a worthwhile handcuff option for those that roster Swift.
