Jakobi Meyers 2022 NFL Player Outlook: Still One Of New England's Most Trusted Targets
2 years agoNew England Patriots wide receiver Jakobi Meyers was one of the team's most consistent wideouts in 2021. He caught 83-of-126 targets for 866 yards and two touchdowns over 17 games last season. The 25-year-old owned 24% of the team target share but didn't score his first touchdown until Week 10. Meyers signed officially signed his second-round tender from the Patriots during the offseason. New England acquired DeVante Parker from the Miami Dolphins and drafted drafting Tyquon Thorton in the second round. Meyers will compete with Kendrick Bourne, Nelson Agholor, Hunter Henry, Jonnu Smith, Thorton, and Parker for targets in the Patriots' passing game. Long-time offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is now the head coach for Las Vegas Raiders. Who calls the offensive plays for New England has yet to be decided. Still, former Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia is reportedly the favorite to do so, which is a noticeable downgrade from McDaniels. Meyers is the primary slot receiver and one of quarterback Mac Jones' trusted targets, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect 126 targets from the NC State product in 2022. Meyers has more fantasy value in PPR formats and will likely lead the Patriots again in catches in 2022. Despite all the questions surrounding New England's offense, the undrafted wide receiver is a solid WR4/5 in PPR formats.
