Jake Odorizzi 2019 Outlook: He'll Look To Take Next Step This Season
6 years agoJake Odorizzi enters his second year as a member of the Minnesota Twins after having a less than average but better than poor 2018 season. A 7-10 record with a 4.49 ERA isn't exactly inspiring back-of-the-baseball-card stats; however, 164.1 innings pitched with 162 strikeouts are certainly serviceable for fantasy baseball. As the Twins third starter, Odorizzi has never been a blow-the-doors-off type pitcher. Last season, a career-high 3.83 BB/9 crippled the 28-year-old, contributing to his 1.34 WHIP, also the highest of his career. One show of progress was his 8.87 K/9 which was almost a full point higher than his 2017 season and the highest since 2014. Odorizzi also dropped his HR/9 from 1.8 in 2017 to 1.1 last season. Slotted in at 96 on the Rotoballer rankings, the right-hander has an early ADP of 381, meaning he likely won’t wind up on many rosters to start the season. However, if Odorizzi continues to eat innings, limit the long ball and walks, he could prove worthy of a flier for leagues on a point scoring system.
