Hideki Matsuyama Set To Defend His Title This Week
1 year agoHideki Matsuyama returns this week to the World Golf Championship Bridgestone Invitational as the defending champion. In 2017, Matsuyama blistered the rest of the field and went on to shoot a course record-tying 61 on Sunday to win by five shots. This week, he will look to recreate that magic to try to successfully defend his title and further help his chances of making it to the Tour Championship for the fifth consecutive season. Matsuyama, who is playing among the best in the world, will need to bring out his best short game and go low and is ranked sixth in strokes gained around the green at .521, but his putting has slacked off, as he is ranked 88th with an average of 2.549. Matsuyama is ranked 16th in the World Golf Rankings and has a scoring average of 70.650.
