Gregory Polanco 2019 Outlook: Wide Range of Outcomes
6 years agoGregory Polanco is entering his age-27 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates and will likely be in the top third of the lineup surrounded by other hitters such as Starling Marte, Adam Frazier, and Josh Bell. The Pirates have an overlooked offense compared to fellow NL Central rivals in the Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Brewers, and the St. Louis Cardinals. Although the offense may not garner as much attention as those other teams, the Pirates offense does have some quality value plays in redraft leagues, and that begins with Polanco. The young outfielder carries a nice mix of power and speed, as can be seen from his 2018 totals, which included 23 home runs and 12 steals in 130 games. In 2015, Polanco stole 27 bases, and the 12 steals from last year were his second-lowest total in his five MLB seasons, so there's definitely bounce-back potential on the base paths for 2019. Polanco has the abilities to hit 25-to-30 home runs and steal around 20 bases if he's able to stay on the field for an entire season. His draft stock this year comes with value, as Polanco is currently ranked as the 40th outfielder and the 130th overall player according to the 2019 RotoBaller Rankings.
