Giannis Antetokounmpo 2018-19 Fantasy Outlook
6 years agoMilwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo enters the 2019 season with high expectations. Ranked only behind New Orleans Pelicans forward/center Anthony Davis in many preseason rankings lists, the “Greek Freak” solidified that spot by starting out last season as the favorite to finish the year as the league’s most valuable player. However, after averaging 33.7 points throughout seven contests in October, Antetokounmpo fizzled a bit and saw a noticeable decrease in his PPG and field goal percentages throughout certain points of the season. While he never fully regaining the luster that he had initially, he ended the year averaging 26.9 points per game, good for fifth in the league in addition to finishing with a 31.2 usage percentage, good for fourth among players who played at least 2,000 minutes. Though he has the benefit of playing in the much tamer Eastern Conference, it would be hard to justify selecting him ahead of Houston Rockets guard James Harden and Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, two guys who are as consistent as they come and play on teams that will push the pace on a routine basis. However, Antetokounmpo is a top-five player, and you can’t go wrong with him on your squad, regardless of where he is selected in your fantasy draft.
