George Springer 2019 Outlook: Don’t Expect A Return To 2017 Numbers
6 years agoAfter a breakout 2017 season, Springer came back down to Earth in 2018 as he finished with 22 home runs and a .265/.346/.434 slash line. While by no means terrible numbers, it was a disappointment to fantasy owners who were hoping for a repeat of his 2017 line of 34 home runs with a .283/.367/.522 slash line. It seems like the power in 2017 might have been somewhat of a fluke for Springer, as his 15 percent HR/FB rate in 2018 — albeit a career-low mark — lies a little closer to his previous career numbers than his 22.8 percent rate in 2017. Along with that, his 19.7 percent strikeout rate is closer to what he was doing before 2017 when he posted a career-best 17.6 percent rate. Even if Springer is “only” a .265 hitter with 25 home runs, he will still be a must-own in virtually all formats and his current ADP of 57 is pretty spot on with where owners should target him.
