George Kirby Rebounds With Eight Scoreless Frames
4 months agoSeattle Mariners starting pitcher George Kirby spun an eight-inning gem in the team's extra-inning, walk-off 1-0 win over the New York Yankees on Wednesday. The 25-year-old punched out seven hitters, gave up no runs, and matched a season-low with three hits allowed, but it was only enough for a no-decision. Kirby recovered in a big way, anyway, after unquestionably his worst start of the year last Friday when he let in seven runs against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The former first-rounder has exhibited impeccable control, walking no more than a single batter in each of his 11 starts in 2023. Kirby carries a strong 3.04 ERA and 1.01 WHIP with a picturesque 58:6 K:BB into his next start opposing the San Diego Padres next Wednesday.
