11/20:New York Yankees first baseman Garrett Cooper and pitcher Caleb Smith were traded to the Miami Marlins for minor league pitcher Michael King and international bonus pool money. This trade is minor yet interesting on many angles, as Cooper had 45 productive plate appearances in 2017, slashing .326/.333/.488, and had a .359/.423/.634 batting line in 350 total plate appearances in the upper minor leagues. Smith pitched to a 2.41 ERA with 9.1 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 over 100 2/3 frames in the upper minors earlier in the year before struggling in the big leagues. As for the Yankees' haul, they took two players off of the 40-man roster (looking to make more room to protect players from the Rule 5 draft) and added more international bonus pool money, loading up to potentially go after Shohei Otani.--Chris Zolli - RotoBaller
